Re: For the Whiskey drinkers?
My favorite relatively cheap whisky is Crown Royal Black. Lots of oak and very smooth.

I prefer a Speyside Single Malt, but my favorite 'cheap' blended Scotch is Clan MacGregor. If you like Speyside malts, its great value. The local gas station has it at $17 for a 1.75L bottle.

I actually had an enjoyable drop the other night.
Woodford Reserve. Small batch bourbon. A very nice sippin' whiskey. I think it's around $44 a liter, but I'll look for it on my cruise next week and see if I can get some cheaper.

So when up in Maine, that Black Velvet stuff was $9 a small bottle.
It seemed Famous Grouse and most of those bottles that used to be cheap were in fact a lot cheaper in Maine, $5-10 cheaper for the smaller ones.
Though is booze taxed at the regular food rate or not up there? It seems there's just taking the piss in MA, considering booze is tax free down here.

Woodford reserve is a nice bourbon. Juts stay away from the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. It's like gasoline.

There is a nice Welsh whisky around called Penryn or Pendryn. I got it in LHR. I usually have blended whisky with (British) lemonade, but this was nice on it's own or with ice. I'm Scottish, but don't call me a traitor. I like the Balvenie Doublewood as well. It's a single malt.

DUDES. I just flew through Schiphol on my way to Germany for a business trip, and the "whisky and cigars" shop at Lounge 1 have four bottles of Ardbeg Corryvreckan on the shelf and are expecting a dozen more. I got my first bottle when it hit Heathrow as an exclusive, and thought it was gone, gone, gone. I had them hold me a bottle for my return trip. If you happen to happen across some, I highly recommend the lovely, peaty, put-hair-on-your-chest dram. Even if you're a woman.
I should be ashamed of myself. The duty-free people at Heathrow T5 on the ground floor recognize me now. But we have too much fun tasting. Last time they had me identifying where in Scotland whiskies were distilled by taste... and I can do it!

Amusingly enough, nearly everything at Wegmans was $5-10 cheaper than before Christmas.
There was I think a Speyburn, 10 year aged for $15 which wasn't badly priced I thought...

So who got what for crimbo? I got a Northumberland whisky (Coquet River). I had heard of the river, but never the whisky. Speyside in style, with a touch more peat. It's OK actually. I hate the peaty stuff, tastes like bloody TCP.
