This seems ridiculous, but DH & I cannot find decent boxed Christmas cards anywhere in this Connecticut town we moved to recently. All we have found are a few not-great boxes of 10 at Hallmark, & some pretty abysmal ones at Wal-Mart.

Friends & acquaintances tell us they get theirs at Costco or BJs, but we don't belong to either. Where do you guys get yours? Is it perhaps too late to find a good selection?

Most people we know get theirs made with their own photos. At first I thought this was kinda cheesy but now I think it is great to see how families change over time.
We did it last year and this year but we put a picture of our boxer on the card - he is way more photogenic than us!

I try to buy them in the UK because a hate all this 'Happy Holidays' crap. It's not happy holidays...it's Christmas. I can by cards here for other religions...so why do we have to say 'happy holidays'?

If I don't get them in the UK I buy a box of the Costco speciality ones.

Made the mistake this year of buying a boxed set of 30 different "handmade" Christmas cards from Costco. Talk about cheesy! Some of them were clever in concept, but abysmal in construction. Never again. May get down to making my own in the future as I've been talking about it for years.

I buy the matte cardstock at Staples and make my own -- that way I can say what I want and put photos of my dogs on them! (Whenever it snows I always take lots of photos for this purpose.) If I do buy, I refuse to enrich Hallmark and usually do so in the January post-Christmas sale from National Wildlife Federation, who make very nice cards.

Slightly OT, but my MIL always sends us really crappy cards (all occasions). They seem really thin and with few exceptions they are all the same make (Hallmark) and exact same shape and size.

MIL always says to me 'You send such lovely cards/tThe cards in the UK are really nice' etc, but I have seen nice cards in US shops. Maybe she is just mean and buys the cheapest ones lol. (But SIL and DH's grandmother are the same!)

We have NEVER had a card for DH to 'Son' or to us both 'Son & Daughter-in-Law' but my mum always gets cards with 'Daughter & Son-in-Law/Son-in-Law/Daughter'etc and DH has only once had 'Brother' from his sister (when I commented that it would be nice for DH to have Brother). His grandmother has never sent a Grandson card either, ever.

I'm sure you must be able to get relative cards in the US, I think I've seen them. Or am I imagining things?

Back to subject, I usually get personalised cards from Ace Gifts & Cards or NWF (National Wildlife Federation in the US). Though I have to fudge the order if I use NWF because they want a US address so I use my address but put MA for the zipcode. Seems to work!

I too hate the whole Happy Holidays thing, I love that people still use the word Christmas in the UK, most shops have a Christmas Catalogue etc. In the US everything now seems to have changed to Holidays, Holiday Trees, Holiday Parties, Holiday Cards, Holiday Dinners, Holiday Catalogs etc. You can actually chart the onslaught of 'Holidays' if you watch all the Xmas episodes of Friends (1994-2004). The first few Xmases they use the word Christmas but the last few years of Friends it's all Holidays.

Yes, they have every permutation of relatives, etc. on the cards in the US -- you can even get cards to send to people's pets!

As to Happy Holidays vs. Merry Christmas -- if I know that the person I'm sending a card to doesn't celebrate Christmas, I'm not going to use that wording.

We go online to Walmart.com and use their personalized photo cards. You assemble them at home, place the order, and can pick them up from Walmart within the hour.

I try not to put MY ugly mug on them though - my kid is way cuter.

And I KNOW they're cheesy and some people hate photo cards, but I love getting them from other people so I like to send them in return.

BJ's have a good selection, with peel off sticky envelopes.

Wegmans have a okay selection, quite a few charity cards, which are rare here.

Papyrus have a nice collection of cards. You can find a selection of theirs in other shops too, such as Target.

You can find them for anything and anyone. Hallmark have made it possible for find a card for every occupation/person or event...you can even find cards on a happy divorce and to ex family members :/
