I spoke to Princess direct yesterday they reckon the September 20th sailing may still go ahead but they have the final date to the end of July so we have a few more weeks to see what happens.

I've never been on a cruise in my life.
Does that mean I could be immune to cruising ?

Don't bother. It was the most unpleasant experience of my life. Never again.

I couldn't even get coffee at 4am!

Last week I called them to cancel a cruise in September, Southampton-New York. I expected to lose our deposit but they refunded it all, didn't even suggest that we delay the cruise or put the deposit into a future cruise credit.

Well done. Many are struggling to get their money back, as they prefer to give cruise credits.

I was pleasantly surprised. In recent weeks I have cancelled a hotel in London, rail bookings, and 2 vacation rentals in Cornwall in June. The Cunard phone call was by far the easiest.

If you go to the UK you will have to stay in quarantine for two weeks, in the near future.

We are supposed to go the UK for a wedding in August. We are retired. Thoughts?

Tough call. Our visit to the USA in September that we just canceled was to visit our daughter so the decision was fairly easy. I don’t know what the rules will be in August, maybe they will be restricted to arrivals from countries with a Coronavirus problem or maybe they will still be in force for all arrivals.

stay home. Too many risks, plane, hotels, restaurants, gatherings etc. We have decided to go nowhere this year. Probably wait until we have had the vaccine, which I think could be well into next year. Best to stay safe and stay home IMO.

Agreed. I doubt I will go outside of California for the foreseeable future. This is why I'm refusing to accept travel certificates for cancelled flights etc and insisting on my legal right for cash refunds. One flight refund has appeared on my credit card, one claims they are refunding but I suspect I will have to do a charge back on the card, and two are for later flights where I am probably at risk of only being able to get a travel voucher.

I had already booked flights and three hotels, and also taken out Medical Insurance. I booked the flights with AA points. Have cancelled the flights and got the miles back. Cancelled the insurance within the look/see period, and cancelled the hotels. Then I was thinking maybe we could rebook later on if it looks safe. This is my brother’s daughter that is getting married. DH does not want to chance it, so probably will not go. Thanks all for the advice - best to stop thinking about it.

Getting refunds for travel etc is proving to be a problem, because people want to keep hold of the cash. At the end of Feb we took out 12mths travel insurance...approx $600+ as we have been in lockdown since 8th March it is unused. We have called TD travel insurance but they will not refund, part refund or transfer to a later date. We will not be renewing with them next year.

Yes, I took out travel insurance for the Prague trip, bought it in November, with trip cancellation. That was a joke! Yes, I wasted the money. We did make it on a cruise in February on NCL to the southern Caribbean, which was wonderful. Time to put the cases away for us JG!
