When do we expect Trump to lift the travel ban against UK?

With respect, I was replying to your statement "Retirement in the US if you don't have a lot of money is a pretty sad state of affairs. Medical care is a big worry. Overall, the obstacles are huge but I don't fancy the option of not overcoming them at all."
Your post didn't specify that you were referring to your situation but rather that you were speaking of retirement in the US in general. Peace.

Well, hubby and I are being tested this afternoon. The elderly woman that we have been caring for has tested positive. We've no symptoms but on the advise of the clinic doctor and our own, we are doing the testing. Easy to make an appointment online through a patient portal, schedule the appointment, complete all the paperwork online and then e-check-in. The testing is done curbside.

For UK it COULD be earlier than that with this new government boost. Though the article does contradict itself a little bit. And we also have no idea what this now means for the pledge of Astra Zeneca. Will they step out of it or will they produce the vaccine in parallel?. Promises have been made. If they produce in parallel then who knows how quickly x million doses could be available from 2 sources?

Health Canada approved the first clinical trials of a vaccine in Canada, its not however a Canadian developed vaccine, but trials of Ad5-nCoV which went into human trials in China in March. The trials in Canada are being conducted at Canadian Centre for Vaccinology at Dalhousie University.
If the trial is successful, National Research Council of Canada will work with manufacturers to produce it in Canada for use in Canada.
I was surprised that the first vaccine to go to trial in Canada is one from China, I was expecting one from the US or Europe to be the first, but maybe the Chinese are further ahead or their vaccine is showing more promise, who knows.

The more clinical trials the better. This is an interesting read, there are currently 21 clinical trials being undertaken worldwide and the majority of them show promise https://www.clinicaltrialsarena.com/...irus-timeline/

It doesn't matter the vaccine doesn't work nothing will be produced. We will never find a vaccine on our own so we don't need the manufacturing facility.

We will likely import the american one in a few years time when Moderna execs have sold the company and taken their billionaire pension pots. That company has only been going for 9 years. They are not big for enough for this they will likely sell the holdings and the vaccine to a bigger company and retire.

There have never released any drug products according to wiki. According to wiki they signed a now lapsed partnership with Astra Zeneca for cancer treatments but nothing appears to have come from that. They are too small to handle this by themselves if they really do have the goods. What are they going to do? Expand worldwide of a once in lifetime vaccine because they have the patent?. By the time they complete expansion other vaccines may appear on the marketplace and they ploughed away a good chunk of money only to have lost out in those markets. A more likely option would be the share holding take their money - a very generous buyout of their shareholdings - and company get swallowed up by one who can handle the business. And get the big returns before others get into the marketplace.
From what I have read this is now the main game in town.

Do you have any idea how many bio-pharmaceutical development companies their are around the world? There are hundreds, probably thousands, and may of them are only working on one, or a handful of drugs/ products. It is quite common for a company to do some basic research and then sell out the project before it moves to clinical trials, or perform the first trials and sell out, or the second, or complete all the trials and then sell the patent and production rights becuase they don't have the capability to manufacture, market, and distribute a large-scale drug. In fact a drug may be traded at each of the steps listed, passing through several owners, with different people and companies specialing in moving the process forwards. but not all the way from original idea all the way to product launch.
