From what has been reported in some news media they only want to cover operating costs but we shall see.

But there may be long-term side effects that under normal circumstances the clinical trials will reveal. Like I said before, it's pretty useless having a vaccination that could cause some major health issues six months down the line. Not that that is going to happen, but it's something that needs to be considered and something that can add weeks or months to the timeline.

Yes, that is the immediate side effect, I had that with a meningitis vaccination years ago too, when my whole left arm went numb, but that was already known because of clinical trials.

Then there is the issue of how long the vaccine lasts, and that is literally something that only time will tell. In other words, a vaccine could be effecive today, and still be effective next month, but if immunity has "worn off" after six months, it isn't going to be a whole lot of help. Maybe a booster would be required, maybe an annual booster, who knows, and under normal vaccine development timelines that would be tested, checked, and considered, but if a vaccine is tested now and found to be "safe" some of these other questions may not be adequately considered if there is a "rush to market".

There have been several on this thread already - "most detached from reality", "most proundly lacking any relevant knowledge or experience", and at least a couple of contenders for the "WTF has he been smoking?" award.

I'm almost at the point of feeling this thread should be closed, but the entertainment value of that poster is high enough for me to think it should be kept open to see what other gems he comes up with.

This Forbes article is interesting and goes into a bit of detail about mRNAtechnology many of these companies are banking on to create a vaccine. Seems in theory this should result in quicker development of vaccines and be safer vs traditional vaccines.
It's also not just Moderna working on vaccine using this technology, BioNTech of Germany is working with Pfizer, German company CureVac is being funded by the Gates Foundation, US company Translate Bio is working with Sanofi and all appears to be focusing on mRNA technology.
"mRNA vaccines work kind of like a computer program: After the mRNA “code” is injected into the body, it instructs the machinery in your cells to produce particular proteins. Your body then becomes a vaccine factory, producing parts of the virus that trigger the immune system. "
"” NomRNA vaccine currently exists on the market, and nobody knows for sure if the technology will work, much less against this virus. To date, nobody’s been able to make a vaccine that works against a human coronavirus."
Also looks like Moderna has spent the last couple of years working with National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease trying to develop a vaccine for MERS.
All these companies seem to be betting on new unproven technology that has not as of now led to any viable vaccines.

A little update for those interested parties. Our Alaska trip has been formally cancelled by Princess so we have a future cruise credit coming back to us hence my postings in the Covid travel thread. The reason for cancellation was in a broad statement on website pointing at things like reduce flight availability and closure of cruise. So they seem to think this ban with will be with us a few more months yet.
