My sisters kids (she lives in the San Diego Region although not in the San Diego Unified School District.) started school on Thursday.
Starting in August isn't new for her kids, they have always started in August, but why start on a Thursday?
Just curious when different regions go back to school, seems August is becoming popular in some area's.
Still start the usual September here, generally the day after Labor Day. No way they could get our teachers to agree to start in August.....

Here in the UK, I finshed teaching for the summer on a Wednesday and they go back, without me, on a Thursday. We've never understood it either!

The young people of Years 1-12 all start public school the day after Labour Day in our town--Tuesday, 8th September.
Last school year didn't finish till very late in June because of the many snow days last winter, so some kids are complaining they had shorter summer hols than usual, only two months....

Kids in our area went back to school last week. They seem to be going back earlier and earlier. When we lived here 30 years ago, they did not go back until the week before Labor Day, or even Labor Day week.

Conspiracy theories in Phoenix suggest it keeps getting earlier to encourage people back into town in the summer to support the local businesses.
They started last week and it was 117 in the valley yesterday.
Personally I am enjoying my last couple of days in Flagstaff.

But still, no summer holidays? These kids are losing out on the best times of their childhoods!!

OH NO
Not yet I hope.
The morning drive to work has been so quiet and safe since the end of May. I am so not ready for crazy school bus drivers, out of control teens in big Bubba trucks and teachers running late.
Time to leave 15 minutes earlier once again

Little Miss P starts back later this year, August 24, and finished for the summer before the end of May. I think the public schools also start back on August 24, but finished for the summmer on June 12. One nearby school has started a year-round schedule and has been in session since the start of August.

Poway Unified school district:
Finished school: June 10
Start school: 19 August.
Well you can't expect the teachers to do a full week can you on their first week back after 10 weeks vacation?

We always started school back in the old days '85 to '97 the Tuesday after labor day, so granted only a 4 day work week...

I could see a major labor war if the government here tried to start in August, the teachers would revolt. (teachers & government are at constant war here, kids cannot go a childhood without strikes at some point, last one was in 2014, affected several weeks of school before they went back to work.)
