When To Apply for Citizenship

Hi Everyone
Been quite a while since I found the time to get on here & I apologize for that. Life is hectic & not enough hours in my day anymore to do much of anything other than work!! Just need to ask one important question that Im sure so many of you will know the answer to.

How long after issuing of 10 year green card am I able to apply for citizenship? I know Ive read up on it before & know it can be done within 90 days of is it the third anniversary of getting the green card?

I know I should be researching this myself but I rarely get the time these days due to the long & crazy hours I work at the hospital. If anyone can give me the reminder I need it would be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers

Hi! Welcome back! :)

You can file the N-400 beginning 90 days before your 3rd anniversary as a PR (that includes CPR status), if you are still married to the same USC spouse through whom you gained PR status, AND you have been married a FULL 3 years. Other criteria apply too, such as time spent outside the USA, etc.

Full details can be found in the USCIS Guide to Naturalization - easy enough to find on google.

Best Wishes,
Rene

Here you go shepslady, I can't believe it's already time!

the earliest you can apply for naturalization is 90 days before the third anniversary of your first Green Card (aka Permanent Resident date--see the 'resident since' date).

Thankyou ladies. I thought I remembered it being 90 days before my three year mark so it was good for you to confirm it for me. Time really has flown by hasnt it? Ive been a resident since 11/01/05 so my calcualtions make it anytime after 08/03/08 so guess with the way time moves so quickly we should be thinking about getting things moving with the paper work & time for me to start studying up on my American history etc.
Have a wonderful day

Cheers

Shepslady
