Re: What would you retrain as?
If I was back in the UK I would be doing the Embroidery Guilds city and guilds courses in textiles. When I did my foundation course at college I was offered places on both the textile and painting course. Being the romantic I went for the painting option but as I have matured, I have worked more with textiles than painting, although I still do both. As alternative to an arts career I think I would have like to be been a meteorologist.

Archeology.
Or ecology/conservation.
Not because I think there's any money in either of them though.

Bahtatsprog#3 is just starting an MSc in Renewable Energy--I'd dearly love to join him; unfortunately they don't do it as a distance learning course.

Nothing wrong with wanting to be Indiana Jones/Lara Croft..... I'd go for it if I could read hieroglyphics.... or combat.... or guns.... or flying a plane.... or bypassing traps...
... Screw it, I'll just dress up, find a side kick and come up with some ace one-liners mixed with sarcasm and lie .

Re: What would you retrain as?
I flew this morning down to North Alabama (Moontown airport) for a fly in breakfast. A retired Army helicopter pilot flew in with a mosquito ultra lite helicopter. It sounded like a sewing machine as it landed. I am interested in getting one but would keep my RV3. This helicopter is very impractical, potentially dangerous, but the fact that a very knowledgable helicopter pilot was flying one was a reason to check into it.
The army helicopter pilots that I flew with were a bit crazy and adrenaline junkies. Especially the Gazelle pilots. They were exceptional pilots though.

I have flown a little with the Navy and one Army Helicopter during my military career. Helicopters have always scared me a little and I would hate to bite the dust in one after nearly 50 years safely flying lite planes. I have always liked gyros also. I think I will go to Menton Indiana to the National rotor craft convention if I still have any interest left by the time it is held this Aug.

I'd like to train as a dietitian. I am incredibly interested by the changes in dietary recommendations going on at the moment - all the new research as well as the old stuff being re-examined properly is leading to some exciting advances.
