Speaking of infotainment systems, one of my graduate students did an internship on vehicle forensics and the ability to remotely hack into a car's infotainment system! The results were disturbing, to say the least - especially if you're a criminal. Sadly, the technology to prevent vehicle hacking is still playing catch up... but most modern systems are vulnerable to attack.

Occasionally driving in America amuses me. This morning someone was driving and eating a bowl cheerios while I was stopped at the traffic light. Then they spilt some on themselves. I did chuckle at their misfortune. I am always amazed at what people do when driving in this country.

I once saw someone washing themselves with wet wipes, just face and arm pits mind you. Normally its just phone , makeup, coffee and donut type things.

Honestly, some people. If I can manage to make sure all my makeup is done before I leave the house, so can they ...

I ALWAYS shave in the car! Have done for years. I leave a shaver permanently there, just bring it in for occasional recharges. Perfect time to do it! Plenty of traffic stops and/or long stretches of highway. Much less distracting than a phone ... just an on/off button and a droning 'buzz' noise ...

I am a bit horn happy in the mornings. I'm such a bad person for not letting someone finish their make up when the light turns green.

I'm the one who does full drum solos on the steering wheel when a good song is on though, so I can't really pass comment on this one anyway

Eating is a common passtime for Americans while they're driving, but I was startled a few years ago to see a woman driving an SUV at around 50mph in heavy traffic on a narrow laned (federal minimim width) and sharply-curved interstate while eating a bowl of cereal!

That just blows my mind. Bar of chocolate, fine. Even a donut, but they're messy. I'll draw the line at a burger if I'm in a rush and can't physically stop for food somewhere, but to take the time to pour yourself a bowl of cereal and bring it in the car with you is just next level shit

I was waiting yesterday morning, second in line at a very quick-changing left filter light. The driver was distracted (I could tell from her head movements), and I think focused on a computer, phone or similar in/near the center console. After the light turned green I paused for only a second as drivers only get maybe 10 seconds (usually enough for only 5 cars to get through), before beeping my horn as gently as I possibly could - the car in front was a cop car!

Unmarked cars around here are really easy to identify.
Yeah, you're not fooling anyone with that beige Crown Vic with municipal plates and no hubcaps, Officer Slick.

They stopped or cut down using crown vics around here 2 or 3 years ago. I see a lot more SUV type vehicles now.
