What gig are you going to?

Re: What gig are you going to?
I just bought tickets for Bush & Theory of a Deadman at The Wiltern in January. Also have tickets for Maroon 5 in April and Nickelback in June.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. Outdoors bayside gig San Diego in May.
(Was going to go to Lana Del Rey but stupid ticket prices.)

I'm considering buying tickets for Noel Gallagher too, but it's a Monday night at The Fillmore, so a PITA to get to.

Treat yourselves to a weekend in San Diego? That gig's a Sat night. (Our favorite Indian is there, Monsoon's)

Hmm, Michael Buble at Mall of Asia Arena, 2 minute walk from where I'm staying, $36 this Saturday. Tempting though I don't really know his stuff.

Manic Street Preachers at Webster Hall in April, hope it's as good as the last time they played here in 2009.

People are bummed out there are no west coast dates. I suspect they're going to see how well the east coast dates sell and then maybe announce some dates there. Or they can't be arsed and have to do a quickie tour and then get home for the school run.

Last night I went to see Ed Sheeran. In Zurich. What a fantastic performer, just him and his guitar! He will be playing Wembley Stadium this Summer (10th, 11th and 12th July) so if you're over in the UK it would be well worth trying to get tickets.
You can get a free download of an EP on his website if you sign up to the mailing list; he sang the last track last night (bear in mind it has the 'F' word in it if you have kids nearby).

Re: What gig are you going to?
I spent the day at the first day of the Carolina Rebellion festival. It's the first festival I have been to in almost 14 years, since I came to the US. In many respects it was very familar, but the experience didn't seem somehow "authentic". Perhaps it was that it didn't rain, the resulting lack of mud, or perhaps it was that there were virtually no bottles thrown?
Anyhow I passed on the early bands, none of which I recognized, and a bit of YouTube research revealed that I wasn't missing anything interesting. I started out seeing Chevelle, a very heavy but remarkably slick power trio, that sounded like a cross between a slowed down and polished Motörhead, and Muse, then I caught all but the first few minutes of Cheap Trick (bands were running consecutive shows on four stages, spead over a half mile tract of land). I then moved on to Papa Roach, but wasn't impressed, so I went back to the stage where I had seen Chevelle and found a spot ready for Rise Against. They put on a good show, but I left a few minutes before the end of their set to be sure to catch the Sammy Hagar show from the start. I got fairly close to the stage, maybe 50-60ft back, and he and his band put on a great show, playing for 65 minutes they played songs from throughout Sammy's career, from Montrose to Van Halen, plus three Led Zeppelin songs, in part no doubt because Jason Bonham was playing drums, along side Michael Anthony on Bass, so a super-tight rhythm section!
