Bum!
Been waiting all year for the Ariana Grande concert.
A conference I have to attend has been announced on the same day.
Had to sell the tickets.

I got a ticket to see Styx tonight - they are headlining the Speed Street concert tonight in downtown Charlotte, NC, linked to the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race tomorrow. Around 3pm I checked to see who was supporting - it was Sugarcreek, a band so obscure that I had forgotten they existed, a band so obscure that they don't even have a Wikipedia entry! In the dim and distant past of a (vaguely) misspent youth I remembered reading about them, that they were somewhat a "cult" band, that made a few decent albums. I couldn't have told you that they were a Charlotte band, and I certainly never expected to get the opportunity to.see them live (OK, mostly because I had forgotten they existed ), especially not 30 years later, in their home town. They weren't bad, in a Journey, Night Ranger kinda way, but there is a reason why they never made tye big time. Still, I am glad to have seen them.
There was a similar story last week, when, just a few days before Bob Seger's farewell tour hit Charlotte I learned that Grand Funk Railroad were supporting. This was a surprise because I thought they had split in the 70's! . Anyway, they weren't bad, and surprisingly still had two of three original members! Also surprisingly, they were now a 5 piece, not the power trio that they had started out as, adding a guitar player from Kiss/Meatloaf, a singer from 38 Special, and a keyboard player from nowhere in particular (he had apparently toured with John Secada and with Bob Seger) but was local from Charlotte, NC. I was pleased to have seen GFR, and Bob Seger was OK too, in a Tom Petty and The Eagles kinda way, but at the the softest fringes of my musical interests.

I think this is going to be a good year .... kicking off with a band that I have wanted to see for many, many years - Molly Hatchet, tomorrow (Thursday) night. After getting a ticket, I checked to see which version of the band I was going to be seeing, as I knew that the original lead singer had ded a few years ago. Well, the band is now the version that a guitar player who joined in the late 1990's "purchased the rights to the name and brand" around 2000, so more than 25 years after the band started out. The longest-serving member of the band joined in 1984, and the others joined this century, in one case just last year. So this will undoubtedly be the least authentic band I have ever seen!
Then I am following up with Grace Potter on Friday night, and The Dead South on Saturday night. In February I have tickets for Joe Bonamassa, and then Queenryche supported by John 5 - I like Queensryche, though sadly they are without lead singer Geoff Tate these days, but I am most excited to see John 5.
And then Kix in March, another band that I had never expected to see, and didn't realize were still around.

Strange how this thread just kinda died...
Saw Jason Isbel weekend before last, livestreamed into our living room from Atlanta. Now maybe i am old, but decent wine, comfortable chairs, music as loud as you want - what is not to like? I am trying to find a website that lists what livestreams are coming up
