Just to put your mind at ease: I have 2 growing kids whose interests change and who grow out of wanting Frozen/Hello Kitty/Cinderella/whatever else relatively quickly.
Is a new duvet cover every couple of years considered extravagant or something?

Just curious. We have two duvet covers and sheet sets, (plus the one we had in London when we were first married, which is only a queen size and we use on the guest bed) though in fairness one set is due for replacement imminently. Little Miss P also has two, and she has arguably outgrown the Tinker Bell set, so that will be replaced soon.
In short, we don't get through them fast enough to think of them as a "stocking-up" item.

For me it would be -
Marmite,
Harribo Starmix (and Moam, laces.etc .etc),
Anything Cadbury's
Wheat Crunchies (Don't judge me).
Hob Nobs
Ribena.
I can get some of the above in my local Stop'n'shop, but at their prices it's cheaper to fly home and get it. probably.
Next time I'm in the UK I *may* also actually pick up some of my crap I left at my parents house.

I "like" bed linen too, but I haven't yet worked out how to use more than one set at a time!

Whilst we only use one set at a time (but extra pillow cases because... pillows!), I have somewhat of a collection that I brought over from the UK (but don't fit the bed), and have expanded on since being here (thanks to our local Marshalls). Always have a quick look through Marshalls bedding section in case there is something nice there

This world never ceases to amaze me. One moment scientists announce a discovery that sea slug neurons could be a neurological miracle, and the next moment I discover there are people who collect duvet covers. You couldn't make it up.

Tea for me too. It's light and, if you toss out the box & put the teabags into plastic bags, very easy to pack....
Also the little dispensers of tablet no-calorie sweeteners, whichever kind is cheapest, Sweetex, Canderel, store brands. (Don't know WHY they don't have these here in the US! So sick of the wasteful paper packets.)

I get those, also M&S or Fry's Turkish Delight for both my wife and the wife of our go-to taxi guy as she's from Kiwiland where they have the Fry's ones and she misses them.
Tea and most British biscuits we can find most of in the International aisle of our local Stop'n'Shop or failing that the British shops in the West Village. I often get dark chocolate Hobnobs if I can find them in the UK as I've never been able to find them in the US. I also get TUC crackers as I've never seen them here (although I recently discovered Dare Cabaret crackers which are very similar).
I have been known to have smuggled Bovril back before I discovered Bovrite...
