Well things are bad and I have submitted to...
Reading glasses I've been taking off my long distance ones to read now for a couple of years, but it's getting bad. I wrote a check by memory at the store cause I couldn't what the hell I was doing, god knows what it looked like but the cashier accepted it
So I'm going to go and try out reading glasses at the shop, the Optician said I'd need some two years ago.

I myself am simply hoping to avoid incontinence briefs.

I had to get progressive lenses last year. I had no trouble adjusting to them but I know alot of people do. I usually wear contacts and have a bit of trouble reading with them and my doctor suggested I use reading glasses if I need to with the contacts. That just gived me a headache!

I have a type of contact lens that corrects for both distance and near-sightedness on the same lens. They are not bifocal lenses. Apparently they are 'dotted' with both corrections and somehow the eye sees what it needs to see . I wear them in both eyes, just the distance correction is slightly different (one eye a bit weaker than the other).
I find they work fairly well. When I tried the mono-vision lenses, I felt my distance vision suffered during night vision but I had no problem reading with the mono vision set-up. It just took awhile to fully adjust to it.

But I've noticed lately, if the print is TOO small, I can't read it with my glasses on. I have to take my glasses off and hold the item up to my nose in order to read fine print.

Has anyone had their eyes lasered? I'm considering at some point in the future as my eyes are getting gradually worse.

I don't think it stops your eyesight getting worse.

I've not known people who have had problems, but I understand that a few people do. I think I'll still go for it though (when I can afford it!). I'm getting fed up of glasses and would prefer to have a permanent solution.

If you Google it, a lot of the problems will come up.

I may ask to try those bi focals that have no lines or anything next summer when we are due for new glasses with the insurance, till then I'm going to have a go with reading glasses from WalMart if I ever get there.

Re: What has pissed you off today
Hey well done! Shall I say "I told you so"?
The vari-focal lenses weren't fantastic for driving at night to start with for me, and initiially I had probs seeing properly with them if I was anywhere with a lot of bright overhead lights ("Best Buy" was a good example). It takes a few days but if you persevere you'll find that your brain should adjust to how to use them within a few days of wearing them, or at least mine did.
Like the other poster said, your optician will change them out for you if they aren't working well when you go back for your follow up appt. I've had them adjust my scrip a little before when I went back because it was throwing my distance vision off.
I actually stopped wearing vari-focal contacts about 6 months ago and have the "mono vision" system now (one eye for distance one for close). It took me a few days to get used to that idea too. Works like a charm as soon as you're used to it though and I see much clearer with them than anything I ever had before.
Keep at it, and take note of how it feels each day, if it improves or not.
The other thing is, make sure and wear them as much as you can to let your brain work out how to use them.
