Default VPN or DNS for UK TV

We have used StrongVPN/ StrongDNS for a number of years, but the service and support have become increasingly poor so we're thinking seriously of changing to another provider. We want to be able to watch ITV, Channel 4, BBC, and most important, use the IPlayer.
Anyone have any views?

I have used and recommend Overplay.net for SmartDNS. I rarely use a VPN because SmartDNS is quite a bit faster.

I second overplay. I only subscribe to their SamrtDNS option and have had no issues.

Because we can't use smartDNS here - don't ask, long story to do with rubbish service from Philippine Telecoms - I use Tunnel Bear VPN. About $48US a year for unlimited downloads and up to 5 users. Most days I can get around 1/1.5mb downloads via wifi against 2mb ish direct via wifi on a 6mb connection. Can use iplayer etc etc.
Try their free 500mb a month trial to see how it works for you before paying anything! No credit card needed, just register.

I use Hola on a Chromebook, free but not totally reliable. Sometimes you need to reload a few times. Also can stutter, I do not have the fastest connection.

I used unotelly for a good while until it stopped working. I now too use overplay. I've found smart DNS to be way better than any VPN service.

I use a VPN, only because it had a life time membership for cheap as a deal a bit back and it works well.

If I were looking again, I'd go the DNS route though and Overplay would probably be one of the first ones to check out.

I use SmartDNSProxy https://www.smartdnsproxy.com/
It gives you DNS and VPN.
We can watch live iplayer on DNS. And the VPN is lightning fast for torrents.

It stopped working for me with iPlayer. Might have been a temporary glitch, I don't know.

If you must watch live UK TV and you have a Roku (or plan to get one), then the UKTV channel is for you. It's just $1.99 a month and has all the main UK channels and more.

I had it for a while but, as I'm not always around to watch in the middle of the day, didn't find it that useful to me. I torrent the shows I really want to see and watch on my schedule.

Thanks all for your comments and advice. Overplay didn't offer a free trial so we thought we'd try out 'Unlocator'. Very clear installation instructions, picture quality and speed seem better, after just two or three days of our we're impressed.

I barely watch live TV as it is the time difference only makes it worse.
