Default Visiting Scottsdale for xmas any ideas??

hello peeps. We decided cannot face 1st Xmas back in blighty so are going to Scottsdale for a week over Christmas.

Have 2 children aged 4 and 6 - any good ideas of what to do/ where to go?
Would really like to do a horseback trail but finding it hard to find one where they will let you double up with the 4 year old- any suggestions?

Want to do something outdoorsey that will let us see the landscape a bit- but straightforward walking not usually a hit with the kids.
ideas appreciated.

Go to Sedona for a day or two. It's only 2 hours north of where you'll be and the scenery is breathtaking. We'll be there too.

Take them on a pink jeep tour! http://www.pinkjeep.com/

What do you think the weather is likely to be around that time of year?

We're thinking of a bit of a road trip over Christmas time and might head over that way.

Mid sixties high, mid forties low for the Valley and Snottsdale. Sedona will be considerably colder, though.

If the current heatwave continues, maybe not even that cold. Ugh.

I agree, there's not a whole lot to do right in Scottsdale, but a short drive north will bring lots of fun.

There's always Westworld in North Scottsdale.

What route would you take? Would you head on to San Diego?

I am SOOOooooo looking forward to my first winter here - it's cold enough at night to use my wood-burning fireplace, warm enough during the day to feel ... good!

according to this - Scottsdale avg high 68F, avg low 40F; Sedona avg high 57F, avg low 31F

No, I don't think san Diego is a possibility.

We'll be travelling from/to Dallas. We have a son in school, so Christmas is the next time we'll have a chunk of vacation time, so we're just toying with ideas to make the most of that time off at the moment (on a budget that limits flying anywhere ). I've never been to Arizona or New Mexico, so would like to visit there - I hear that there are many areas that are beautiful.

I blame Steerpike! He arrived and the monsoon never materialized, then we got triple-digit days in middle October. I'm sure there's a connection here.

I just drove from Scottsdale to Santa Fe; it was a great drive! I posted questions and the route itself here. Be aware that it gets COLD in some of those areas - there may be snow/etc (eg, Show Low). The nicest drive was through the Salt River Canyon, between Show Low and Phoenix; second nicest part was from Phoenix to Payson; but the whole route from both Payson and Show Low across AZ/NM was great - beautiful rolling hills. And the drive to Sedona is great too! Santa Fe is absolutely worth a visit also - the center.
