US national debt
I am never sure how much to believe from news articles, but a trillion dollars a year debt payments sounds concerning. Maybe it is just scaremongering.
In our latest nonpartisan analysis, we found that interest payments will quadruple, topping $1 trillion per year in as little as a decade. That's more than we will spend each year on the military or Medicaid, and as a share of the economy, it is the highest in history.
America's debt crisis is coming -- interest payments will hit a trillion dollars a year

Re: US national debt
So long as entities keep buying US treasury bonds, the debt level doesn't matter - when the music stops however, the one without a chair is in real trouble.
That's what irritates me about Paul Ryan and the GOP in general - cut taxes and that's fine, but add to the deficit with MCD spending? Hell no!

Re: US national debt
The national debt has been a topic for decades. It really blew out under George W. Bush's program of tax cuts coupled with increased government spending.
The founding fathers always intended for there to be a national debt - when the US was new and weak, they thought that if the country had a permanent national debt, creditors/other nations would have a vested interest in seeing it survive (get paid back!) vs seeing it collapse (don't get paid back!).
Of course that was 2+ centuries ago . . .
