UK MP murder

And I thought all the crazy people lived in the USA.

Jo Cox MP shot and stabbed to death in Birstall, W Yorkshire.
300 yards from the house that I lived in for 25 years before I moved to Texas.

If there ever was a place where nothing happened, it's Birstall. But now its going to be famous for a while I suppose.

Another senseless loss of human life, What the hell is the world coming to?

Time to ban guns... oh wait.

In all seriousness, crazy people can be found anywhere.

Crazy people; people with agendas; people consumed with hatred and bigotry.

I can accept and understand killing someone in self-defense or in defense of another. But to just kill because you can? Never would defend this action.

I'm sorry that this MP died so tragically. It is a waste of life.

From the press reports, the killer was a nice quiet guy that used to help out people with the odd gardening job. Be interested to know what tipped him over the edge. I think there is a lot of tension over immigration and the Brexit at the moment. Some people get quite worked up and she was outwardly supporting the IN vote.

If the UK leaves Europe and hanging comes back, there's the first one for the rope

I found this so upsetting. We're hurtling towards some kind of right-wing apocalypse and seem to be unable to put the brakes on.

The Right Wing are in power. It's the moderates that are trying to change things.

According to this article, the suspect bought manuals from a U.S. based far right wing group with practical instruction about how to make a gun from parts that you can buy in a DIY or hardware store. In a way, this shows how effective gun control is in the UK, because presumably crude homemade guns require know how and equipment, and are never going to be "automatic". However, I believe the news reports say he fired several shots..

I read it was just 2 shots. This may have been a lot worse if weapons were readily available in the uk

It isn't, or wasn't, about gun control in the UK. It was attitude self-control. We aren't, or weren't, the kind of culture that wanted to be armed, still less the kind of culture that thought that shooting people was an acceptable response to anger, frustration, sadness, fear, etc. etc. British culture isn't, or wasn't, like American culture. Just like Switzerland, where all the men have a gun but don't use them to shoot people. American culture apparently cannot handle being armed. British culture is, or was, different. The escalation of hysteria, fear and xenophobia of late is helping not one bit.
