Bloody refs!
in the incident with the ref over the handball, I was told I was about to be red carded for arguing, though I never raised my voice and never swore (both rare occurrences for me :o ) even when I proved I was right and he was wrong it was just 'oh well' |

That was one of the reasons for becoming a referee. My son was a youth and HS coach and at times it was embarrassing (but not everyone gets it right all the time!). Main problem here (and probably most states) is that there simply isn't enough officials. You have to really love the game (in most instances) to do this!
I had a coach yelling at me during a game - then after the game he apologized and said that if he doesn't shout the parents don't think he's doing his job:( |
Re: U12 Soccer at the highest level.
A lot of the refs in our league are just youngsters learning their game at the same time the players are learning theirs. Most of them do pretty well, and most of the coaches are pretty supportive of them. Its just a shame I had to say "most", not "all"...
One of the best refs in our league is an old English Hippy type. With the younger ages he indulges in a bit of coaching as necessary, especially with throw ins etc. But he doesn't put up with any crap...one game he sent a dad off for continually verbally abusing the other teams players (10 yolds!) and the 14(?) yo linesman. It didn't take long for the ref to come and chat to him, warned him if he didn't stop he'd be removed to the car park, at which point the dad shouted "wtf would you know - you don't know the ^&*ing rules anyway you old asshole". Cue the red card:lol: Took about 10 minutes for him to leave, cursing and arguing with everyone including the league rep, both coaches and most of his own teams parents. In the end he did leave, but took his son with him:(. The other team's coach then apologized to all, but the rest of the game was pretty muted. |
Re: U12 Soccer at the highest level.
When you sign them up you have pages and pages of crap to agree to.
Presumably this combo would be booted out after that. They have a Referee course this Saturday, can not do it, maybe next time. Go green I say quite dryly, first game of the new season is 20th March. I will need to work in some chants, Your'e even worse than the Villa, does not seem to work. |

Re: U12 Soccer at the highest level.
The only issues I heard was the Mother of the yellow card girl who had mouthed of to the Ref being told from distance to shutup.
The general consensus was like Mother like Daughter. I was going to say it probably helps that we win, but I got a chance to chat with most of the others and they all seemed reasonable. |

You're kinder than me, I'd say the majority of the refs here are utter shite. Many of them have no idea with the rules and are highly inconsistent which is the worst thing you can be as a ref. Being inconsistent leads to tempers rising throughout a game.

Yeah, but I'm guessing we're at the other end of the spectrum to you.....ours are kids games and a lot of the refs not much older than the players! Still doesn't stop a certain demographic from treating each game like a World Cup final.......

Re: U12 Soccer at the highest level.
I hate the ones who allow bad tackles but as soon as someone yells 'hey ref !!!) its a yellow card.
I once got a red (coaching) for saying 'that's ridiculous' about a decision BUT to someone else , it cost us the game and I have to admit I did tell him to f*** off......his report said I used the F word 10 times BEFORE he sent me off..................blatant lie and even though I had witnesses the league didn't want to know |

Honestly, it was about as bad a tackle as I've seen. It's a miracle he didn't break the guys leg. We were playing a team that is known for diving. They go down for everything and the refs just don't seem to see it. There are frequently red cards in games against them because the other team always gets wound up with the constant diving. It's tough - I don't want to see the refs abused but at the same time they're getting paid and most of the ones that ref my games are atrocious. Back on topic about younger kids - I've been to watch a few of my nephew's games here and I'll say that on the whole I think although the parents are more vocal here generally about sport and cheering etc, they're calmer and more polite than the parents at footy games back in the UK!! |
Re: U12 Soccer at the highest level.
I will be trying to enforce a 'line of respect' which keeps parents at a distance. There is NOTHING more damaging to a player than having a shouts parent.
Don't suffer it here and won't out there. |
