Traveling to Martha's Vineyard from Boston
Planning a day trip to Martha's Vineyard (EdgarTown) from Boston. I know you have to take the ferry etc; but which ferry and from where do you take it? Is it possible to park the car before taking the ferry? If we park and go how is commuting done on the island? Any tips please for first timers..thanks!

If you want to take your car onto MV, the only possibility seems to be the Woods Hole (Falmouth) ferry. Reservations are strongly advised.
There are other ferries that carry passengers only to MV--most of those ferries do have mainland parking lots for passengers' cars. Travel without a car on the island can be done in several ways; two popular ones are renting bikes or taking the local MV busses.

Woods Hole, but the ferries get booked way in advance in the summer.

For cars, yes, but probably ok for walk-up foot passengers? I don't think OP intends to take their car on the boat.
Just to be sure: OP - don't even think about taking your car on the boat. You may as well set fire to a wad of cash and fling it overboard. Just get the bus when you arrive at the other end.

Why not take the bus? There's a good bus service from South Station in Boston to Falmouth. Then I believe there's a shuttle from Falmouth to Woods Hole.

Seriously.... ? Google is ok at somethings but expat experience is a better measure and I find it quite harsh that people can't ask questions without people replying like this. Why reply to a post if you can't offer constructive advice? Leave it to people who don't mind offering their experiences maybe

The shuttle bus is actually for foot ferry passengers who want to drive their cars to Falmouth, park in the Steamship Authority parking lots around Falmouth village, then take the shuttle bus to board the ferry in Woods Hole as walk-on passengers.

I've taken the Woods Hole ferry to Martha's Vinyard several different ways through the years, as we used to have relatives on MV. But due to changing schedules & new parking set-ups & revised bus routes, it always seems difficult every time I do it....

The truth is that busses and ferries all over New England can be fairly complicated for a newcomer. Some transport systems for both work pretty well; some are a PITA. Some are very seasonal & some go all year round. No harm in asking for personal recommendations.

The first time I entertained the thought of going to Block Island, I didn't come to a forum but researched the Island and the way to get there on the web. It is all there to find, if you look. After ascertaining what you need to know if you want personal experiences then, of course, ask others what they have experienced when visiting that area.

The free ferry days listed look to be for 2 islands in Boston Harbour, Georges Island or Spectacle Island...?

We looked into doing a day trip once when we were visiting Boston. It was my MIL's idea. I thought it would be too much of a rush for the day so we didn't go in the end. I would do it if I was staying overnight.

Perhaps a place like Block Island where the ferry ride is only 90 minutes although other than good seafood and minor sightseeing along Mohegan Bluff and the light house, there isn't a heck of a lot to do or see.
