Default Trapped

Large wind storm hitting western Oregon. We live on a cul-de-sac which is about 3 blocks. There is one small stretch of road where if a tree or power cable came down it would trap everyone from getting out or in. That is where the power cable has come down and gone right across the road, and before they can get to it they have to clear a path of downed trees and other power lines. Only escape route is over fences and through neighboring yards.

Thanks Ian, went as close as it was safe to survey the damage and several big trees are down taking out multiple power cables. Think we will be with electricity for some time. Fortunately we still have gas. Others are not so lucky as the roots of one of the trees ripped out the gas main as the tree fell.

Glad we have some portable power packs, as least able to keep phone and tablet charged for a couple of days.

Cake and whisky hopefully enough of each. The power company are now saying 3 days before power is restored. I shall apologize in advance if my posts become incoherent and slurred.

You're lucky -- we've gone a couple of weeks in such circumstances. Happy to hear you are stocked on the essentials!

If you are friendly with your neighbours at the back, you could maybe ask them if they would be kind enough to go get a pizza for you.

Not sure that would work. Their only contribution has been to push the adjoining fence, which was partly blown down into their yard by the wind, over the other way and into our yard. If that is a demonstration of their attitude I can't see much help coming from them.

Fortunately a neighbor about 2 blocks down backs onto our son and DIL so we have a pizza supply chain if needed.

The power company sent 2 guys to stop people walking out around the downed power line. The suggestion that instead of shouting at people it would be more helpful if they or the power company got off their collective backsides and at least moved the downed cable to make it safe to get out was not well received.

It was the prolonged gusts that did the damage. Hopefully it has lost a lot of its power in the trip up to Seattle.

Well some good news. The city came out with a JCB and chain saws. Trimmed the huge tree that was blocking 2 roads right across the junction. They then push the tree back onto the property it fell from, and then dumped all the branches on top of it.

At the same time after speaking to the power company the city crew moved the power cables off the road, so at least we can all get out now.

I'm glad to hear that things are moving for you. Hopefully they will get your power restored sooner than they predicted.
