Re: Trainspotters
As a real youngster I used to cycle to Longsight sheds to see the 'City' class that were used on the Euston to Mcr routes and then up to Glasgow.Could also see the sheds at North Reddish where the first Electric overhead used on the Mcr - Sheffield routes.
As a youngster we used to go to 9D,9E & 9F the sheds at Stockport and Heaton Mersey and stand and watch them cleaning out the clinkers from all classes of engines. Most memorable was standing on Wimbledon station watching the Atlantic Coast Express go thundering through with the distinctive windshields And SirSteve, watching the Irish Mail go though Llandudno Junction on its way to Holyhead with a double headed Scot was a sight indeed. Crewe was great for all sorts and saw the first Midland Pullman, the distinctive blue and white colour scheme going past Cheadle Heath on its way to Mcr from St Pancras. Steam had an certain attraction and electric and Diesel when it arrived, seemed to destroy spotting. Aaah memories. Now I'm like Sultan, Planes have taken me over, good style ! :o |

I'll own up . In my youth (mid 60s) I spent many a happy day on New Street station Brum collecting numbers but best of all was Clapham Junction
Also illegaly sneaking into the train sheds was a challenge I am still to this day fascinated by steam trains |
