I got sancti-daddied yesterday

I was in the Disney Store with SmallChog, she was colouring with the crayons at the little table with some other kids. Because she is a horrible unsocialised little 3 year old there was a disagreement about the purple crayon. Me and the other mum stepped in and told our respective horrible children off and apologised to each other. As I was moving away from the colouring table the dooshbag guy looked me straight in the eye and said "Good job parenting after the fact"

How am I supposed to parent BEFORE an incident like that happens? Did our insurance not cover the psychic powers upgrade that comes with birthing a small human being?

I really need to put her in some tiype of daycare so she can deal with other children better

Looks like you can tell how much actual parenting he does - his wife does all the work and he judges you?

My wife was struggling with how big the portion sizes should be for our kid. If you are having similar issues this is a good resource

There seems to be a much bigger emphasis in the US placed on socialization of young children.

The school my daughter goes to basically won't accept children directly into kindergarten that haven't been in some sort of organized pre-school program.

Yeah, I knew everything about parenting too, until I actually had a child! My son has been in daycare since he was tiny, but kids will have disagreements - it happens. You handled it fine and showed your daughter an example of how to behave appropriately by apologizing.

The kids at my kids pre-school don't seem that organized, they tend to run riot. I guess they are sort of organized riots.

What age are they?

Little Miss P started out in daycare at age two and the "program" was somewhat chaotic, but centered around regular meals and snacks, and a afternoon nap.

Year on year, over three years, the program progressively morphed into something that by halfway through the year before she started kindergarten, her daily routine was indistinguishable from kindergarten - a regular daily schedule set to the clock, "circle time", read stories, writing and numbers/basic maths tuition, etc.

Her transition into kindergarten was seemless and pain-free, helped perhaps that from the day she started, when she was too young to understand, we always referred to daycare as "school".

They are 3, but it's not a full time day care. It's couple of mornings week run by the city. It may be a shock when he starts pre-school in September 4 days a week.Half days seem to finish at 2 at the pre-school and full days finish at 3:30.

It wasn't even his kid! His kid was somewhere else entirely and the other mum seemed as embarrassed as I was by our horrible childrens brawling behaviour

Exactly the same with my 7 year old step daughter and now 20 month old daughter.

Suspect whatever you like from the far side of the world, but American daycares put a lot of effort into socialization and "get along skills". What Bubblechog described is typical of a child who has not been used to a daycare environment, and she herself admitted Smallchog has not been to a daycare.

FWIW I don't recall little Miss P ever behaving like "a shit" in public.

They do here as well. The first few years are geared to teaching kids social skills and behaviour before moving onto basic education. Kids still have brief moments of shit behaviour, they wouldn't be normal kids otherwise. I don't remember mine behaving badly in public other than one temper tantrum, doesn't mean it didn't happen. Kids aren't computers, they occasionally forget stuff. If the programme worked correctly no one would ever be selfish/rude etc, whatever age.

Whether my kid is in daycare or not, which he certainly wouldn't be able to tell from a 90 second observation at the mall on a Sunday night, it's not necessary to get vocally judgemental in that way.

I'm also calling BS on little Miss P never having behaviour issues unless you have some kind of robo-child. All little kids have interaction issues sometimes. Are seriously trying to suggest she's never got upset because another kid took something from her or made another kid upset because she did the same? Even kids I know who have been in daycare since 6 weeks old have those kind of issues

SmallChog was not having a meltdown or a violent screaming attack on another kid it was a squabble that was defused quickly by 2 mums that were both watching and responding to their kids. The guy was just being a dick and I hope his kid had a lying on the floor fists flailing tantrum 15 minutes later in the food court as Karmic retribution
