Shouldn't it be Le Mis?

(I'm not part of the in-crowd on this.)
Was there only one of them? More than one and it should be Les Mis

Fairly common these days. Most of my cards are contactless. I think a lot of people have them and don't even know it.

Not so sure about that: https://www.creditcards.com/credit-c...-us-market.php

None of my US cards are contactless, but my UK ones are.

It's OK, even if they didn't catch him, Jack The Ripper is most likely very dead by now. I don't have the stats, but I'd hazard a guess that the reporting of knife crime is just a bit more news worthy today. My brother lives in deepest darkest Peckham, its fine, it's even got some coffee shops and Craft Ale Pubs.

They're mid-seventies. We'll be coming in from Loughton, Essex on the Tube.
Any tips for traveling safely on the Tube? This'll be on a Saturday night. The tabloids (and the crime statistic themselves) make it seem like London's in the midst of a violence epidemic.
Will there be a lot of drunk people?
There's absolutely nothing to worry about. The stories about increased crime are mostly contained in specific neighbourhoods, and you needn't worry as you're heading to Central, which is probably the safest area.

Make sure you all have Oyster cards (bought from any corner store), if contactless cards aren't on hand. The only thing safety-wise I would say is. especially with older passengers, and it might seem obvious but: don't rush. The only time I've had oopsies on the Tube is if somebody I was travelling with thought they could get in the carriage even though the doors had started beeping to close. Just wait for the next one.

The drunk folks are harmless!

Hope it's a good trip for you all.

hmmm not true, I have 3 actual contacltess cards and I use all of with Apple pay as well. The only issue with using them in place of an Oyster is there may be international fees/charges with each tap in and out where as an Oyster Card would be a one time deal (assuming you don't refill).

A few years ago I was watching a show on TV (maybe the travel channel?) and they were talking about the signs warning tube travelers about pick pockets, basically it was saying there are organised gangs who observe people getting off the tube, reading the sign then checking the location of their money/valuables. Apparently those signs create a 'how to get there' for stealing, I have never forgotten that message, it might be worth mentioning.

This is why I only have international fee-free cards on my Apple Pay.
