Default Thoughts on the new CDC Guidelines RE Masks?

Having this convo on another thread regarding how Airlines cannot mandate only Vaccinated People travel from UK to USA or Vice Versa the same applies with the new CDC Guidelines regarding Vaccinated People not requiring to wear masks! I for one am going to continue wearing despite getting both shots of Pfizer because I don’t know if the person next to me in the grocery store is vaccinated or not. Yet if I continue to wear one will I be treated as an outcast and people think that I’m not vaccinated?

I really am not comprehending the meaning behind this new rule. Makes no sense at all MA for one is keeping its state mandate for the time being

Looks like the whole of the northeast still requires masks.

With one predictable place - the live free or die state.

Illinois has relaxed the rule, but private businesses - shops etc - can still require them and the two or three I went to yesterday did. They have the safety of their staff to consider, since they spend hours inside the places and may not be ready to have people coughing, sneezing and spluttering all over them again.

I work at an airport. Federal mandate is in place until the middle of September so I’ll be wearing one at work for a while. California is saying next month the mandate will be lifted. I’ve no issue wearing a mask, but I doubt I will unless I have to now I’ve been jabbed.

Same here. Went to Trader Joe's yesterday:
They're one of the few nation-wide grocery chains who announced, after the CDC decree, that customers will no longer be required to wear masks.
Wore my mask and anticipated being the "odd man out"
To my surprised relief - EVERYONE was masked

Old habits die hard
So too, do new ones....

I remember going to Taiwan and seeing a lot of people wearing face masks for no apparent reason - SARS/MERS obviously affected their on-going behaviour? Now I understand and I wear a mask most of the time in public even though I am fully vaccinated. Local businesses still require it (even my local TJ's when I went there a few days ago).
Saying that, I went to an outdoor bar music venue and didn't wear a mask. First time I 've been out and socialising with friends in, god, forever! It was heaven.

Having received both doses of vaccine I am totally comfortable not wearing a mask in public at this point. We did so for the first time this weekend while at Walmart. It really was liberating. I strongly suspect that some of the people that were maskless were unvaccinated, but that is their choice if they choose to take on that level of personal risk.

The healthcare provider where I work still requires masking, and likely will for a long time to come yet, but er are seeing a massive drop in the number of COVID patients coming in, even in GA where less 40% of the population is vaccinated.

We had scheduled flights to Panama City in August and NYC in December, it will be interesting to see if the airline federal mask mandate survives to see the second trip.

Masks are becoming a rarity here in Tennessee. There were always a fairly large number without them but now almost totally maskless. I wore them when in a store for almost a year but now that my wife and I are vaccinated I have quit doing so. My feeling on my mask is the benefit is to other people 75% (if I am unknowingly infected) and maybe if lucky 25% to me.

The anti-maskers are still unsure if they should wear masks because they don't want people to think they are "dumb enough to have been vaccinated", while the pro-mask vaccinated people don't want people to think that they are anti-maskers. So most people were still wearing masks this weekend in WA. I'll probably still wear one at the store after I'm done, still got a few weeks until my second shot.

The masks have always been for the benefit of other people, even when I'm fully vaccinated the shop workers etc will have no clue if I am or not so if wearing a mask stops them from worrying about it I'll carry on wearing them.

.

pre CV19 in Asia the mask wearing is not to stop them getting sick, they do it when they have a cold etc to stop it spreading to others. It’s just a different mentality of being a good citizen.

Governor Newsom (here in Caliofornia - whom I do support) just did a quick turnabout from his turnabout only 2 days ago.
Dizzymaking
Newsom had announced an end to indoor masking requirements.
Today, following CDC's revision (of their own prior revision) - it's "masks on indoors ! "....once again. (Remember what Yogi Berra called that ?

Actually, I'm relieved :
The "Herd Immunity" panacea goal remains a mirage for now.
And will continue to be just that until at least 75-80% inoculation of our population against Covid 19 is achieved.
In CA. today - we're under 40%. A long way from our goal

With summer fast approaching, and temperatures rising... so too is our impatience.
It's a worry

Now that you mention this point I always always get a very bad cold/ cough during winter time. My cough becomes so bad that sometimes I lose my voice as well. This winter? Nothing! Zero cold and zero cough, perfectly fit and healthy. I think I actually may start wearing a mask every winter now atleast going forward. Same when I travel by Air, I always catch a cold anywhere I go few days after travel. It definitely makes sense now

Yep- I’ve always supported our Gov Baker too until today. Did a quick turn around and from May 19th no Masks required for Vaccinated People. Wait it’s not just vaccinated people even kids are not going to be wearing masks at schools, playgrounds etc even where no social distance can be maintained. Kids are not vaccinated so I don’t know where the thought is coming from
