I also have a 20 guage shotgun for dealing with copperheads (we don't get rattlers or cotton mouths here), but in the ten years or so that I have had it I have never had to use that it the heat of battle either.

This is part of my property that is "grass" but I haven't bothered to blow in recent years. It is near a massive oak tree. I took the photo last weekend.

I could start this off by saying 'a house' as they were out of range living back in the UK. Moving here, not only was I easily able to get one but it came with 1 acre of land and a pond.
Which meant that a push-mower was no good, so last week I went and got myself a John Deere ride-on mower complete with headlights and a cup-holder.
Go back a few years and this was not something I ever thought I'd have use of or be owning.
Living' the dream

All kinds of sun related things: umbrellas; sun shades; sunscreen in spray form, lotion form, and block form; sunglasses; car dashboard covers; lighter coloured cars to keep some of the sun's rays out; more sandals than shoes; UV protective clothing; linen scarves to keep the sun off my neck.
My life revolves around the sun. I probably look ten years older than I am thanks to it. Just spoke to a friend in Glasgow who said she felt naked the last time she went out with bare legs...whereas now I feel weird if I ever wear tights.

NO women around me seem to ever wear any stockings in the summer, not even to formal occasions like funerals or gala events. They have amazing dresses of all lengths but are bare-legged with fancy sandals for these occasions. All the summer-weight tights I brought from England are unused.

I'm with you there..
Can you imagine having 3 cubes of chopped up, coloured bark dumped out side your house back in the UK then spreading it around your yard?
My old neighbors would have thought I was nuts.

We've started getting the natural brown mulch. It's slightly cheaper, and it looks better after the first couple of storms come through anyway.

Coloured mulch is weird. Can't everyone see how fake it looks?
