This would explain a lot, actually. Not enough time to evolve...
It is a common myth among Texans that they have a unique right that other states don't have to secede from the Union, due to their earlier decision to cease being an independent republic. It doesn't seem to occur to them that the Texas Republic was a sort of compromise, forced by US presidents who didn't permit Texas to join the Union immediately after the successful Texan war for independence with Mexico.
Had the Texans had their way, they would joined the US immediately after their war. I can only presume that the US federal government wanted to delay the annexation, so that they would be prepared for a possible war with Mexico that such a move could provoke (which did, in fact, happen later.)

Close enough!
Seahorse3 seems a bit of a dark horse. Pops in every couple of months with a single, crazy neocon-style comment, then goes back to sleep. Takes all sorts, I suppose!

I don't know how Texas gets away with that. Even the old law seems to be illegal.
In 1987, the supreme court ruled that creationism cannot be taught in public schools.
Then in 2004, a US district court judge (a conservative Bush appointee), ruled that the Dover PA school district could not incorporate Intelligent Design along side of evolution in biology classes.

Its funny until you see how serious some people in positions of authority take it - and they have the balls to tell other people they're crazy....
Anyone ever had the misfortune to drive through north Texas? It looks like a Nevada test range. Then imagine the mixed aroma of cattle yards and oil fields. If Texas wants to secede, its fine with me. Just let me out before you put up your border fence.
