Re: Tele
Pretty good, although Tim Roth mumbles a lot and I miss great swaths of conversation (remember Jamaica Inn?) Will continue to watch though with the volume turned up and hope my lip reading skills improve.

Re: Tele
I stumbled across 'the crown' on netflix last night. Ended up getting hooked, watching 3 hours.
I am completely not interested in the Royal Family, considering them by and large a waste of space, so I can't quite explain why this show interested me; perhaps the historical context, with Churchill and all that.
Anyway - loved it, and especially loved Claire Foy.

Watched all six episodes of "The Crown" on Netflix and while it was somewhat entertaining and educational for an American, I found that I would have loved to have seen HRH divorce Phillip, the lying, cheating sob. Felt like a damn soap opera at some points.

Re: Tele
I'm currently enjoying the series with former "Lady Mary" from Downton Abbey called "Good Behavior". Quite a good actor as I was pleasantly surprised to discover.

Re: Tele
Rob Lowe - I still can't get over his performance in 'Parks and Recreation'! I'll watch anything with him in it now.

Re: Tele
Off note, does the gf have the captioncall phone from the federal government? It is free and great to have.

Started to watch SLUM BRITAIN: 50 YEARS ON on Channel 5 , bit sad and depressing, but informative on the current state of the UK's poor

Re: Tele
Standard feature on my set as I'm profoundly hearing impaired. Not only does it catch the words, it usually tells the sound effects and actions, i.e. laughter, sigh, sniffle.

I haven't heard any mention of 'captioncall'; I'm passing on this info now. From what I'm reading just now, the captioning is done by a live person who listens in on the call. If you have had experience with this, do they come online almost immediately? My g/f does long conference calls currently using skype with lots of technical content (she's a programmer); will they stay involved on a long call? I presume the 'listener' stays totally in the background and is not apparent to any other party?

Re: Tele
I found it very educational as a Brit - I knew little about Churchill and Eden, and the inner workings of 10 Downing St, and next to nothing about the royal family and the control exerted by the likes of Lascelles. I also felt quite sympathetic towards Phillip - not because of the 'name' thing, but because he was essentially reduced to nothing.

Re: Tele
Sour Grapes on Netflix,
Documentary on how a guy managed to scam a ton of wine 'aficionados' (read: ultra pretentious) men out of big money with fake wine.
Was actually really good!

Re: Tele
Not only descriptive bits like sounds and actions, but also, sometimes, composer and similar info ("Bach's concerto #3 plays in the background"). We heard some awesome music in a movie once, seemingly uncredited, but identified by the closed captions.

It is a wonderful program, free of charge, from the FCC. Someone comes to your home, hooks up the phone, makes sure the initial setup is correct, instructs you on how to use it and off they go.
