I admit I had cosmetic dentistry done here in the US 3yrs ago, I was forever looking at my work colleges teeth and thinking how white and straight they were, I had a slight over bite which was taken care of no trace what so ever anymore, all thanks to the surgeon, personally it was one of the best things I ever did, even if it cost a few thousand.

Would I of done it if I had been still living in the UK probably not.

I was pretty evil to my teeth as a kid all the way up to age about 24-ish. So I had severe gingivitis and my teeth were getting extremely loose. When i came over here, I found my confidence about my smile was completely shot, so I spent about 2 grand getting calcium injections to clear out the gingivitis, then eventually spent another 5 grand getting a complete bridge put in at the front to replace my top set of front teeth completely. There's still one tooth visibly missing, but I smile without worrying now. At first, it took a lot of getting used to, as my new teeth seemed so big, but I (and my wife) have since gotten used ot it, after 1 and a half years. I'm super happy with them now.

There are 2 key words in that article... Natural and cosmetic!

On the subject of, last night I was at the mall and saw a woman having her teeth whitened right there in the middle of the mall. A little further down there was another woman having her eyebrow plucked with string (Threading). The things people will do for vanity.

Anyone else getting the 'Professional teeth whitening online' ad at the bottom of this page?

Now if my teeth were that colour I'd probably get them fixed. But despite years of NHS dentistry mine are straight and white. Well, white by 'normal' standards. You know, they don't have a blue glow to them.

I don't get the ads. My teeth are white and straight despite the NHS...so are my daughters. BTW she was 11 when we moved to the US and is now 23...our dentist couldn't believe she'd never had braces or had her teeth whitened.

I just thought it was interesting that it was a legitimate (Made the media) issue. I always figured it was just something you expats liked... discussing.;)
