Sounds like chai, which is Indian tea made with a lot of milk and sugar and spices.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chai

So they did actually make it how it was originally drank, the British adopted it from their colony .
This is how most Indian people drank tea that I knew growing up in Brum when we went to their houses

Then the girl hands me my cup of tea and I ask if she could take some of the water out so I can add milk... just then i notice something bobbing up and down in the cup... I said "is that hot water" she says.. "yes.. but I put a few ice cubes in it because the water is very hot" WHAT?????!!!!
have not followed all the thread but only the first comment and have to say ........

bloody amazing !

I tried to educate two people at work with some PG Tips.

First one - lactose intolerant so needed soy milk. We both smelt it and it smelt like crap. She tried it, then added sugar, tried it again and no real improvement.

Second - quietly sipped it and smiled a bit. I could tell he didn't like it

Unfortunately, this was all in polystyrene cups. Must remember my fine bone china next time

Somehow, milk in tea just seems wrong (sorry you all, I'm sure that's sacrilege).

A bit of sweetener, sugar or honey, if I don't feel well, I can take.

But milk.... nope.

I prefer my coffee black, but milk and sugar doesn't bother me, just not my fave. But it seems like it might belong.

Milk in my tea - there is no china in existance that can fix that

OK, I do like the UK brands of tea though...

A drop of COLD milk in tea is the norm in the UK.. I'd prefer the hot steamy frothy milk to be saved for a cappucino!!

LL - it was regular 'awake' tea.. not a chai tea..
