A Taste of America
#37
Re: A Taste of America
Buffalo wings (nuclear) with lager
Strawberry cheesecake with coffee
Pecan pie
Breyers or Dreyers ice cream
Biscuits and sausage gravy
Chicken fried steak and gravy
NY style hot dog (mustard, onions and saurkraut)
Carl's Jr cheeseburger and shake
After reading that thru, it dawns what a ghastly unhealthy list it is.
BUT:
Prob no worse than:
Fish and chips
Chicken and mushroom pie and chips
"The great British heart-attack"
5 pints of beer and a curry
More beer and crisps, pork scratchings and nuts. And beer.
Not to mention:
Pies, flans, trifles, scotch eggs, more chips, beer again, beans (farts), quiche, bacon sandwiches with butter (and maybe egg), chocolate as addictive as smack, bread which can be used as ballast and more beer.
I think its a draw.

Re: A Taste of America
I would say pretty much everything everyone has listed on this thread but especially Willy Wonka chocolate bars with the Graham cracker pieces in it.
I will have been here 7 years in 10 days and I still feel like I'm on holiday, that is until my family visit and I realise just how clueless I was when I moved here. They ask all the questions I did and I think how I must've sounded a right prat.

What American culinary delights have you discovered since moving to US and now just can’t live without? Here are a few of mine….
Root beer floats
Krispy Kreme Donuts
Frozen custard
Cheese curds
Cheetos
Pancakes with maple syrup
Chicago-style beef
Dill pickles
Buffalo wings

STEAK!!!! It wasn't till I tried a good corn-fed, prime grade steak, done medium rare, that I realized just what all the fuss about beef was. I'm not saying you can't get a good steak in UK, but I never had one. My brother (who still lives there) raves about the steaks here.
Prime Rib.
Japanese food - when I lived in London (admittedly ... 25 years ago) you could hardly find a Japanese restaurant. They were everwhere here. Korean food - ditto; Mexican / South American food - ditto.
Fresh Tuna, served seared.
Peets Coffee with properly frothed milk.
Breakfast burritos (bacon, salsa, egg ... ) from an authentic Mexican place.
Salsa in general !
=====
Man, I'm so glad I live here !
EDIT: Corona Beer!

That green marshmallow salad stuff. Weird to have on a roast dinner but love the taste of it.

Re: A Taste of America
My husband has been asking me why people would put anything other than jam on a scone.
Tried Krispy Kremes in London, but they weren't the same as the ones here!
I'd say my favorite discovery has probably been either Red Robin (yum!) or Cold Stone Creamery. Pretty much everything else people mentioned we'd eaten elsewhere at one time or another, but that might be because my husband grew up near an American base.
