Default Summer camps

I was talking about this over in the lounge the other day, but thought it was deserving of its own thread. The mini Weeze is at Princess camp this week. The first day was Cinderella and the fairy godmother. They danced, had their nails done, made some crafts and jewelry and generally had a great time. Tuesday was Ariel and they had crab races, made crafts, got tattoos and played in bubbles. Yesterday was Elsa and Anna. Elsa had made real snow for them to play in. They learnt a dance and made an Olaf snack.

What cools camps are your minis doing? I remember last year someone talking about being involved in a hunger games camp, which presumably involved less killings.

My 8 year old girl is doing this lot...

Soccer camp, out of town, run by her uncle at a college.

"So you think you can dance" dance camp.

"Get set to be a vet" at the Science Center.

"Tech-mate" programming and chess combo, also at the Science Center.

None because even the cheapest, couple of hours a day for part of the week camps are around $550 a week.

There is a nice little ballet camp in town and another day camp that does fishing and canoeing kind of stuff.

The little one is a year or two to young to do our town football/baseball/cheerleading camps and she wasn't interested in t-ball anyway...and we weren't interested in the cost of the ice-hockey camp.

Daughter would have loved to take advantage of the camps through the Science Center, it's a shame nothing is offered this way. Seattle is just too far to travel every day, twice a day.

The summer camp I worked at in the late 90s currently has fees of $10,090 for the full 8 weeks - that's over $1260 per week! We didn't see much of that money.

The first one I worked at is $10,550 for the full season! Gulp.

No kids here so I asked my sister. 2 of 3 are in summer school, and the youngest is staying home, no camps.

Yeah, those kind of rates if you wanted 5 days a week...ones in and around town are 3 days of 1-3 hours.

The town only does a few sports camps, but most are geared towards 7/8+ year olds.

It is a bit crazy.

My grandson is doing a week all day English soccer camp next week. Just hope the lads from England doing the coaching are better then the national team. Last year they were very good.

Oh, these were full time camps, ie kids arrive on day 1, might see parents on visitation day half way through, then go home at the end of week 8.

Small world! The first camp I worked at, each staff member stood up at the staff welcome session and announced who they were and where they were from. Six of them were from my home town. One of those knew my mum!

Yeah, board, lodging, flights, and IIRC $300 in cash (1997). Probably would have been better off at McDonalds and private lodging. The 3rd and final time, I paid for the flights myself and was a bit better off. But it's hard to put a price on that kind of experience. But I do feel guilty that I was a crap camp counselor, in the educative sense!

Mini Weeze announced last night thT camp is brilliant and she wants to do more. She is already signed up for her preK camp all summer, but according to her that's just school but a bit funnier. Now she has decided to do pirate camp one day next week. She gets to wear a cape, become super mini Weeze and solve a pirate puzzle.

Have you checked out the YMCA camps Bob? I thought their pricing was pretty consistent across the country. Just done a quick search on Mass Y camps, and saw a Science and Nature full day (drop off between 7-9am, pick up between 4-6pm) for $295 per week. This is about the same as here, and then if you just go for the general no theme camp it's usually a little cheaper.

We decided at 12, daughter didn't need day camps, hoping she'd be able to occupy herself with friends and her climbing team... Seems to be working quite well, she's been off school for 2 weeks now, and has spent 2 days at home. She's currently on day 4 of a hard training week, she'll be running both directions of the Golden Gate Bridge as her warm-up again this morning, before spending 6 hours in a climbing gym in SF. She's doing her usual two away trips, so a YMCA general camp with zip lining, skits, flag football... for 5 nights with a friend. Then she's back 4 nights before she goes on a 7 night climbing trip in the High Sierras. It must be great to be 12.

Hey Nicky, sorry O/T but I've been playing gooseberry with my daughter and her boyfriend, she said, "You need Nicky around!"

Hope it's not getting too serious?

I've not been on here much either, trying to avoid World Cup spoilers. Plus my 'My Profile' button isn't working since the upgrade, and keeping track of threads is a real PITA now.
