Success!!

Got through the interview successfully!!! Whoo hoo, should be here in a couple days... we are booking flights for the end of the month! It was a gruelling day, I wasn't seen until 2.30 and had an appointment for 9am, and had quite a grilling about my intentions in USA. Thanks to all the useful advice to all of you on this forum, invaluable!

Congratulations :)

I wouldn't mind hearing a little about the grilling you got, if that's possible? What were they asking you? My approved petition is on it's way over here at the moment, so it might not be that long before I'm having my interview too.

Ah yes, well when I went up to give the documents in after 6 hours waiting (!) I was asked why I was moving now, where I would stay, why I thought I would get work. Luckily I took details of my husbands US bank account and recent voting in USA which seemed to help. There were a lot of questions about domilcile, and they were very thorough with examining the I864 forms (I had two) and the tax returns. There was also an issue because 5 years ago I had done the initial form to start the process before we found out you had to move over in 6 months of being issued the visa, we had just had my daughter and decided we wouldn't be ready to move in 6 months so didnb't take the process any further. They asked me why we changed our mind etc, a number of times, but eventually seemed satisfied.
I was really worried about having enough documentation and the best advice would be to comb through this forum and heed the advice given, more is always better even if they don't ask to see it (they didn't want to see any of our proof of job search, home search, school enrolment, or letters from in laws about letting us stay with them etc), it allows you to think through the responses of the questions they may ask and gives reassurance about your reasoning for getting the visa.
If you follow the guidelines they send and the advice on this forum there shouldn't be any reason to not be successful.
Also, they are really thorough regarding security, we had to pay at a nearby pharmacy to store our phones, pen drive and car key fob, and you may be waiting a LONG time while all the non-immigrant visas seem to just pop in and out! Take a book and snacks!! My 5 year old daughter had her first whole Mars Bar as it was one of the only snacks left...she couldn't believe her luck!!!!
Good luck!!!
Rachael

Thanks for that right up, Rachael.

Sounds like a very long day. I think I read on here someone who was there only an 1hr and 30mins for their interview; I hope I get that lucky.

Good luck with the move!!!
