Thankfully I don't meet many real Brits day to day and those I do are the usual nauseating salesmen (yes they are men!).

t-shirts, yes, I agree = wannabes. Brits are much more subtle imo.

Stickers? not so much. I'm eagerly awaiting a new welsh dragon sticker for my car

Americans don't tend to know what it is at all. The Brits do.

Just had a holiday in Sorrento and yes, I had a pretty good success rate when it came to spotting Brits. Americans are also generally fairly easy to pick out.

Well outside the US it's waaaay to easy to spot Americans, because they all wear matching T-shirts, baseball caps, or have name badges on their lapel.

There is a house near my wife's family in Totowa NJ that has two giant flags out front, one Stars and Stripes and one Union Jack. We have half jokingly said we will do the same if we head Stateside.

In Florida they are easy to spot, sunburnt, inappropriate clothing, and bad teeth.

I don't notice the bad teeth ... (Really, is this still true?)... but I do agree the sunburns are SUCH a giveaway.

We live in a touristy town where beaches & watersports rule, and I must say I've seen some terrible Brit sunburns over the years. Americans, Canadians, even other northern Europeans--no real sunburns. But whenever I see a painful lobster-ish hue to the skin, I know it's a Brit.
