Must admit the situation in India is worrying as they have no idea if its a new variant or the UK variant. It seems like this will be like the sweating sickness that swept the UK (mainly England, I think) from 1485 -1551 which people caught numerous times before it died out. I really don't understand why people don't get vaccinated, other than they have little imagination.

Just one question, where did you get the following information from "smallpox has reared its ugly head again" That is frightening, if its true.

I found nothing, other than one lab accident affecting one person in 2016. She may be thinking of measles, which has had something of a resurgence particularly in the eastern us, due to lack of vaccination.

I looked too and found the same as you, I was nervous there for a minute, last thing we need is small pox making a come back, especially with so many people no longer vaccinated against it, pretty much everyone born after 1972 in the US is not vaccinated for it and I think other countries over time largely stopped vaccinating for it on a routine basis as well.

My sincere apologies. I had read a year or so ago that there was a case of smallpox found in Africa. Apparently I either remember this incorrectly or it was misdiagnosed.

Glad that there have been no cases reported.

BTW having covid-19 does not provide immunity long term.

There are good reasons why some people do not get vaccinated,not least because of other medical conditions they have, or because of reactions to previous vaccines. Having had to be given CPR as a child, following a whooping cough vaccine, I never get the flu jab, and I had to think long and hard abput COVID, and consulted several medics into the bargain. In the end the benefits made it worth the risk - if I ever want to get out of Australia I will need to be vaccinated, that much is becoming clear. However I am still concerned and not really able to relax even though its now been 4 days wtth no side-effects.
Don't get me wrong, I have no patience with anti-vaxxers, but sometimes there is a good reason why people do not get a shot when its offered.
