WWII vet discovers he’s not a U.S. citizen
Ninety-five-year-old Leeland Davidson discovered recently that he's not considered a U.S. citizen, despite living nearly 100 years in the country and serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

Davidson, from Centralia, Washington, told KOMO News that he discovered he wasn't a U.S. citizen when he was turned down for an enhanced driver's license he needed for a trip to Canada to visit relatives.

"We always figured because he was born to U.S. parents he's automatically a U.S. citizen," said Davidson's daughter, Rose Schoolcroft.

He was born in British Columbia in 1916, parents didn't record his birth with US authorities. Parents were born in Iowa before State records were kept.

I figure you folks know more about immigration than most, what's your best guess as to the eventual outcome? Should he pursue it or shut up?:unsure:

If some exemption is not found administratively this is an example of when "private legislation" will move through the Congress. Private bills are extremely rare but do pass through the Congress now and then for the benefit of one specific person (i.e. don't think you'll get one for yourself). But with an anecdotal story involving a veteran like this, some private bill will likely be introduced if they cannot find an exemption.

Three facts don't add up.

• He was born outside the US
• He is 95 years old
• He has lived in the US for "nearly 100 years."

How so?

As far as a newspaper story goes, anything over 90 years is going to be "nearly 100 years" so, assuming that he arrived in the US when he was only a few years old, it all seems to add up.

OK I'll concede that.
Bigger picture, there must be millions of people in similar positions in the US; older people who thought they were citizens, have voted, but may have no paperwork to back up their claim.

He'd be better off up there with the free health care anyways.
