Have you guys ever thought of investing in magnetically sealed windows? My parents house which is about 140 years old has them. They are plexi-glass panels that have magnetic strips around the edges that stick to magnetic strips framing the window. They really help with insulating single pane windows. I can tell when they are removed because I feel a breeze (convection currents) when I stand next to them and it's not windy outside.
I don't know how much they cost as they came with the house but I'm sure they probably aren't cheap either. Look into that as an investment if you plan on living there for a length of time.

I think our windows are rather new (though perhaps they aren't the kind you mentioned). In the winter if you touch our outside walls they are cold. It's a brick house and I don't think there's any (or very little) insulation between the inside walls and outside walls. Not sure we can do anything about that.

I would love to, but I rent....the landlord would shit a brick at the very mention of even putting up plastic shrink wrap around the windows, let alone anything more permanent 
Do have heavy curtains and all the gaps plugged with rags around the windows though.
Oh, and just to say, at our old place up in Maine, would have the stat up to 95, the max, and the apartment would be lucky to get to 55 if it were cold out

Yes, the snow is here. The first real flurry today here in West michigan. They are predicting five inches tonight. Great fun driving in those conditions. Always makes me laugh when half the UK transport network shuts down if they have three unexpected inches. Granted Michigan is geared up for it but still. In the UK you get a coule of inches that melts over night and the ifrastructure falls to bits.
Anyway, months and months of the cold white stuff ahead. Wrap up warm mid-westerners. Get out the snow boots and carhart coats and see you in the springtime

Walgreens Rite Aid have them or go on line and hit search for water bottle {Hot of Course} American ones are not real good they leaked after a while.Had my niece bring two from Boots....................Lovely.We have just got our first snow more to come temps at night 11 degs Nice bottle and afeather bed.
