I can tell when they are removed because I feel a breeze (convection currents) when I stand next to them and it's not windy outside.

I don't know how much they cost as they came with the house but I'm sure they probably aren't cheap either. Look into that as an investment if you plan on living there for a length of time.

I think our windows are rather new (though perhaps they aren't the kind you mentioned). In the winter if you touch our outside walls they are cold. It's a brick house and I don't think there's any (or very little) insulation between the inside walls and outside walls. Not sure we can do anything about that.

ouch!...remind me never to get oil...

we have electric and during the winter months we'll probably be looking at $200-250 a month...and I thought that was painful...

Yeah that sucks. I'm not a contractor so I don't know what your options are but Google around and/or talk to one and find out. Other than that, hunker down with some space heaters and layer up. I do that at my parents house. I wear a modified bunny rabbit pajama (no feet) and wear my Elmo slippers. Keeps me toasty despite looking like I'm still in kindergarten.

Just thought I'd let you all know that it was a glorious 65deg sunny day here today, and it'll be into the low 70s by the weekend.

Wrap up well y'all, it's nearly winter!

Just a warm thought reflected through poetry

Take care

I found this beautiful winter poem and thought it might be a comfort to you.

It was to me, and it's very well written.

I would love to, but I rent....the landlord would shit a brick at the very mention of even putting up plastic shrink wrap around the windows, let alone anything more permanent

Do have heavy curtains and all the gaps plugged with rags around the windows though.

Oh, and just to say, at our old place up in Maine, would have the stat up to 95, the max, and the apartment would be lucky to get to 55 if it were cold out

Anyway, months and months of the cold white stuff ahead. Wrap up warm mid-westerners. Get out the snow boots and carhart coats and see you in the springtime
Lucky bugger. I haven't seen snow for 5 years.
