Rep. Paul Broun, a Georgia Republican, upped the rhetoric against public health care Friday, saying that giving people the option of a public plan "is gonna kill people."

Broun is a doctor. "A lot of people are going to die," he diagnosed from the House floor.
Actually everyone is going to die ...

... apparently nobody has told this guy that the death rate is fixed at one per person ...

(oh, and by the way, he isn't a senator - just a congressman)

Definatly a wanker who hasn't had to worry about having healthcare for his family, or whether they can afford a doctor visit this month.

Just had to be from Georgia, didn't he?

If the GOP ever dies out as a species, the last remnants will be in this state...

He understands how a national insurance works perfectly. Before recent medical issues for my wife and I am guessing a total of about $200,000 (haven't had all the bills in yet and she is still receiving treatment) in medical costs. I evidently didn't appreciate her life, but thanks to the US healthcare system I now do.

Twat.

The sad thing is people who are ignorant of how things work in Canada and the UK will be behind him 100%

First Hospital stay was 2 days then 2 days out then a week stay then a week out then a full month in Central Maine Medical Center. She is having home visits every day right now, but I have to learn what the nurses are doing so I can do it myself.

Conservatives are total self-indulgent morons. To them it is too expensive to spend $1 trillion over ten years to try to fix the health care system but it is ok to spend more than that on a useless war.

They are fear mongers and don't offer any solutions to any problems. Instead of proposing a US health system that is similar to the Swiss system (similar to the US but about 25% cheaper), they can only say no.

They don't like the idea of a government health care option even though insurers administrative expenses are 16% of the premium costs as compared to 3% for medicare. It would also be another 6% cheaper if they could get rid of the profits.

They don't like to subsidize the cost for low/middle income earners because they say it will cost too much but when those families have large medical expenses, they file for bankruptcy and the state and local governments usually pick up the cost.

They don't want the government to negotiate a reduction in the price of drugs because they say this will reduce the amount of money available for drug research but yet less than half the drug companies are American and less than that manufacturers drugs in the US. But they are willing to try to pass legislation that will restrict Americans from going to Canada to purchase cheaper drugs as well as restrict stem cell research.

They want tort reform to restrict the amount of money that people can sue for medical malpractice but will not support legislation that regulates the medical profession (self policing by the AMA only).

Isn't it strange that the greatest power of the conservatives is in the poorest states?

This douche really is a piece of work. Being a US Rep. He gets the same health benefits as Federal employees, and is vested after 5 years. Not a bad gig, no?

Plus he backs legislation to declare 2010 'the year of the bible'

and most idiotic, he seeks to ban porn in the military. arsehole.

What a bunch of utter nonesense. Universal health does have it problems, but certainly the answer for canada. In fact, we are at this time looking into drug addicts being covered.......

Health and dental care for all is a RIGHT NOT A PRIVILEGE FOR ONLY THE RICH.
