There has been poverty in Scotland for centuries ,I really think it has become aceptable to UK governments .The SNP can do more but they need full powers ,they need control of the welfare .Next year they will be cuts in welfare 20 billion pounds ,the scottish government have NO control over these cuts which equals more poverty. My brother used to live in Niddrie in Edinburgh in the 80s the Thatcher years(yes her0 ,its improved now but then it was horrendous place, google it.My brother is on disablity ,hes not what you call poor but doesnt have a lot of money either,he doesnt have internet or even a landline phone just cant afford it .

lots of public facilities have closed or are now on limited hours due to the current economic climate.

I think though Neil mentioned his brother has a disability so it is likely he will struggle to access public facilities.

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has lots of information on relative poverty, for anyone wondering about why the internet would be linked to poverty scales

Well, it's not always easy to interpret Neil's posts, due to his idiosyncratic punctuation style.

Just had a look at the Edinburgh public libraries. It looks like the Central Library is open six days a week, and the various branch libraries five days a week, with some evening hours. So not too bad. Apparently they have nineteen locations, plus the mobile libraries.

Yeah, more taxes! That'll help stimulate the economy and attract more business to Scotland, both creating jobs, and simultaneously giving more money for welfare.

Fail to teach him about over-fishing and sooner or later there'll be no fish for anyone. Hence the sorry tale of the British east coast fishing fleet.
