There is a really big financial hit in using any currency that you cannot issue.
Euro with EU membership or Scottish Pound with EFTA membership are the only realistic options. Dollarization in theory, but not in practice. Using sterling is tantamount to giving up on independence.
I think the SNP plan to use sterling to "ease" us into independence then if we need to switch to the euro to become memeber of EU then so be it.A bit similiar to what happened with Czech Rep. and Slovakia ,they kept same currency for 16yrs .

Multiply by 2, add 1, switch units from days to years - seems a reasonable approach to me!

I must have misheard - it was 38 days. Using the tablet so can't paste the link but there's an article written by J Pehe that comes up if you Google "The Czech-Slovak"

The R4 piece was discussing the feasibility of Scotland retaining pound sterling without ceding sovereignty over various aspects of economic policy and presenting the Czech republic-Slovenia failed attempt as an example of how a common currency won't work without some link between economic policy of the countries involved..

See the sentence beginning "The Slovak currency devalued ..." in the 5th pargraph from the bottom.

It's all explained very clearly in the article I mentioned in Post #665. I just can't paste the link because I'm using this bloody tablet.

You can take the boy out of Scotland and all that...

Me, I'm heading back for a few months just so I can get established and vote no.
