Re: the Scottish independence issue
Scottish people really are a touchy lot aren't they? I ended up being berated as a bigot the other night for daring to suggest that the BBC Alba tv station was, well, a bit pointless.

But yes, BBC Alba is rather pointless. (maybe less pointless than all those shopping channels, soaps channels and religion channels)

Nothing to stop them using the Pound, or the Euro for that matter.

The Euro is the only realistic option. But it would be a political third rail for Salmond to say so.
The only other possibility, and it is no more than a possibility, is to throw in with the Norwegians in EFTA.
Using the pound sterling gets the disadvantages of independence without the advantages.

Plenty of Countries effectively use other currencies, mainly because of no confidence in their own, they could use Chocolate or Nylons.

Re: the Scottish independence issue
But Scotland could not use sterling without effectively giving up most aspects of independence because few countries use sterling and Britain has a vested interest in not encouraging independence.
There is a really big financial hit in using any currency that you cannot issue.
Euro with EU membership or Scottish Pound with EFTA membership are the only realistic options. Dollarization in theory, but not in practice. Using sterling is tantamount to giving up on independence.
