the Scottish independence issue

Re: the Scottish independence issue
"The No camp have nothing to offer Scotland - and Alistair Darling has repeatedly failed to name any job creating powers that would come to Scotland in the event of a No vote. This is not good enough - we need access to the full suite of economic powers to strengthen and grow the Scottish economy.

Don't hold your breath for an answer on that one... I asked about 60 pages ago, and still waiting for something other than "reduced airport tax".....
Maybe the Scottish Tourist Board are developing a secret new line of haggis with added ingredients to appeal to a wider audience.......cinnamon for the yanks, garlic for the french, jalapeno for our southern neighbours, curry for our subcontinental brethren etc etc.

Scotland is a beautiful place but its expensive to get there.Lots of people want to visit for the golf, the scenery ,the castles ,the highlands and islands ,the whisky ,the Tattoo, the Edinburgh Festival need I say more .Making it cheaper to fly there just makes sense if you have a tourism industry which is only second to London.

Talking of which .... Look at the outcry and protests by the local people who were against that golf course and Salmond didn't give a shit for their feelings, he let Trump go ahead anyway.

Do you think there's a substantial number of tourists avoid Scotland because of the airport tax?
How many?

I have spoken to alot of people in USA and Canada who want to visit Scotland but it is expensive, not just to fly there but hotels etc.If they do cut the taxes it will increase tourism no doubt.

If there is "no doubt" about this logic, why isn't every country and state cutting airport and hotel taxes?

I thought most Americans just think Edin-burrow is a just outside London, so go to see the Tower of London and fit in a day trip to Stonehenge and any other places nearby.
