the Scottish independence issue

Re: the Scottish independence issue
Looks like things are kicking off in George Square, Glasgow. I was going to wander down there after work, quite glad I didn't. Riot police and flares abound.
Can't help feeling that Salmond's resignation at such an emotive moment hasn't helped to calm the waters ...

Sadly predictable. Night after with tired folk and a beer or two.

On R5 Live this morning one of the commentators attempted to interview some people who were making their way home after staying out all night following the results. They were completely plastered so it wasn't a particularly successful interview.

All those people sneering at Alex Salmond and the SNP remember this they are still the majority government in Scotland and have come from nowhere 40yrs ago to having 1.6 million scots voting for independence. If you think they are going away you are deluding yourself.

Re: the Scottish independence issue
err...Alex Salmond is going away...
And I don't think anyone here is sneering.
Are you bitter?
Or do you support the wishes of the majority of Scots?

Sad. The eyes of the world on the referendum, and being congratulated on a wonderful show of democracy from all quarters, and then this. Very sad.

On the plus side, at least the Americans will get another demonstration on how to do riot policing without assault rifles and snipers.

Is that sentiment just going to disappear overnight? If it isn't (and I presume that it won't), then where is it going to take them next?

Some deluded people seem to think we live under the yoke of the English.
It's far more productive to work on making Scotland stronger within the Union.
That's one of the problems the SNP encountered..they could not demonstrate why Independence would in fact be better for us. They were just full of vague emotional appeals.

So what? Keep voting every few years? For what?
