Default Robbery Suspect Tracked by GPS and Killed

It's a creepy headline, ..... but it was the police that tracked and the robber, so that's OK then? ..... There was " a context" too, that as the police closed in on him he pointed a gun at one of the police officers.

This reminds me I almost went to interview for a job at TASER last month, working on their law enforcement products (embedded software). They have point-of-view video systems, microphones, body heat sensors etc all linked to their weapons and everything is GPS and real time stamped etc.

I am all for it, it makes officer more accountable and criminal convictions easier.

I saw an officer kitted out in only half this stuff at a recent event at my kids elementary school, they guy looked like robocop.

Unless you're in Albuquerque. Then stuff just magically malfunctions when inconvenient.

Couple of kids stole one of our speed reader signs not so long ago. Not only did it start sending a GPS signal as soon as it was detached from the pole. It took a picture of the thieves and emailed it straight to the police department. They were very surprised when shortly after they got home there was a knock on their door. They of course denied everything until shown the picture.

Then the question arises as to whether they were upper crust lads up to an innocent prank or whether they were of the lower class' and damaged and stole public property.

They were middle class lads whose parents were allowed to pay $7,000 to have it repaired, and it was put down to a stupid prank.

Great. Why don't we just have unmanned drones with an attached homing device take 'em out?

Within a few years you may regret making that comment in semi-jest.

The cops here just got a load of TASER gear (body cams). they can be "turned on and off at officers discretion". So, that's useful then.

It's best not to rush into a hasty post.
