Well, this is a step in the right direction.

It's just ridiculous. So what if a few native's are offended? There's far worse things in the world for them to concern themselves about. If anything, they should be taking a potshot at the Cleveland Indians!

lol, that mascot is brilliant. I also think it's brilliant that a country allows such mascot's to be used without criminal prosecution. You can bet the police would be straight round were a similar image to be used in England!

Well, this is a step in the right direction.

It's only going to lead to more tacky shit, with the Redskins name on it, appearing all over the place. Thus, causing even more "offense" to the "offended" individuals.

The interesting thing is that they managed to make a similar complaint in 1999 and got the TM suspended then only to be overturned in court for lack of standing. Public opinion has shifted somewhat since then but lack of standing may be hard to overcome.

I still don't understand the resistance to change.

They would make a bundle selling the old gear to people who wanted to collect it, followed by another selling the new rig to the fans.

Hungry Horace.

So what?

How would you feel about The Washington Niggers? Or maybe the Cleveland Chinks? The New York Kykes? Yes, it is the same thing.

That people don't recognize that is precisely the problem. The native American cultures are treated as a stereotypical joke. The "natives". They are alive among us you know.

The word 'redskin' simply cannot be compared to the word 'nigger' IMO. The word 'nigger' has such negative, and violent, connotations that it's use is rightfully socially unacceptable. The word 'redskin' though? No way. I asked a native only recently in Utah if he was a redskin, he didn't seem to mind me asking.

I wouldn't be offended by Kykes (never even heard it before) nor Chinks (which was used all the time when I was growing up to refer to Chinese people. It's a term of endearment as far as i'm concerned).

Well "the natives" apparently are offended by being called redskin since such large numbers of them have mobilized for its use to be stopped for so long. It came to be used in utterly unflattering ways and if you are not aware of that, it's easy enough to read up. It doesn't carry such import to you because you don't know - we are all used to the cultures of the indigenous peoples here being trivialized - but that doesn't make it right.

If you don't know the term Kyke, ask a Jewish person in this country, and if you would truly address any Chinese friends you may have as Chinks I would be surprised.
