Protecting Adults

Hi Folks

We have elderly parents in the UK (we're in AZ) and it's become clear from recent visits that they really aren't in a position going forward to truly look after themselves and each other. Moreover, there is good evidence we have recently come across that somebody in the family is abusing them financially, up to and potentially including fraud.

We're aware of the Safeguarding Adults program with Social Services.

We just can't find out any info - we called them to find out what investigations would cover, what implications and outcomes might arise and were told they couldn't tell us - we have really no info to go on to base an informed decision on...

Could anybody shed any light on this? We can't be the first folks to run in to this challenge... (sadly)

Cheers

Harry

No you're not the first ones and you will not be the last.

This may be of some interest.
Office of Public Guardian

We found dealing with social services was like pulling teeth . However they did do an assessment in the home and that in turn placed support , even though it did not and indeed could not prevent family members ( of concern to us) from having contact.

You can try talking with Age Concern - Advocacy.

Boots on ground is best but even then very difficult to sort it out .
