We got a basic Hamilton Beach one from Target for around $20. It didn't look as cool as the Kitchen Aid ones, but was half the price! I like the fact it fits on top of a plastic storage box that holds the cord and beaters.

The Kitchen Aid five speed. Often on sale for $30 at Target, otherwise runs about $40. Nice hand mixer for the price.

When we moved to the US, we got an old GE number from a thrift store for a buck and it still works a treat more than 10 years later of regular use.
