Default Playstation 3

Cannot seem to find any recent posts on whether or not the Sony Playstation 3 would work in the UK.

Would it play European DVD's?

Also how about a Sony home cinema sound system and blu ray player?

Games on Playstation 3 are region free. Your North Amercian PS3 will be able to play European games and vice versa, North American games can be played on European PS3s.

Movies are a different matter. DVDs (and I think Blu Rays) are region locked. European DVDs will not play on North American PS3s. Unless the DVDs themselves are region free, in which case they will play. You may able to find someone who can unlock it but I do not know the details about that.

The BluRays won't be a problem really, but the DVD's won't work.

Don't know how the PSN will work when you move though.

Might be easier to flog it and buy new on the other side, but keep the games.

Unless you switch out the hard drive they won't have their saved game data on their new Playstation 3 even if they keep their games. I am not sure if that is important to you/them but if so keep that in mind. They can still log into PSN using their existing accounts but there is no way to change country as of yet so whenever they sign in they will access the US store, but they can just create free new UK accounts anyway if that is a problem.

You can copy your saved game data to a USB thumb drive or external hard drive, then copy it over to your new UK-spec PS3, so that won't be a problem.

Blu-Ray discs are *mostly* region-free, but there are a few region-locked ones out there - there are lists available online of region-locked ones, so you can check your collection before you bring it back over.
