Re: Planespotting II
Some background on Captain Benham.
Born in Iran and raised there in Tehran. His father was a political prisoner for many years in Iran. In 1976 went to the UK where he furthered his education and learned English, after the uphill battle to come to the US, he finally succeeded, and finished his flight training and time, and ended up at United, where he has spent the last few decades flying a variety of aircraft.

Re: Planespotting II
This is a wing on a Frontier Airlines flight in Nashville last month.
The vendor (one with a bad reputation in the industry) ran out/low on the correct fluids, some reason the employees decided to just tell the pilots they deiced the aircraft and it was clear of contaminants. As you can see from the photo this was not the case, a flight attendant noticed the wing and reported it to the pilots who then returned to the gate, but had this not been noticed, it could have led to a serious accident.

From NATS UK -
No westbound tracks
There was no fanfare or fireworks, but last Tuesday was a significant day in the history of transatlantic air travel.
For the first time in decades and possibly since its inception (we’re trying to work out exactly when, but at least the 1960s) there were no westbound tracks across the North Atlantic.

Marilyn Hartman is an interesting character aka as the serial stowaway. She was arrested again today at O'hare after escaping her house arrest at the care facility she was living at, ankle monitor police were able to arrest her before she got anywhere.

But anyhow this older article below is interesting interview with her. I know of her from 2018 when she went Chicago to London, UK without a ticket or passport, and was returned to Chicago by the UK officials and arrested again.

What does an accident like this COST to fix? I assume, one engine destroyed after being scraped along the ground; one wing similarly 'in trouble'. And I assume, given the huge risk/liability, the entire aircraft would need to be seriously inspected for something like this?

If there is any structural damage, at 15 years old, in current market conditions, could be a write off as well. Time will tell there.
At the airline we had a 757 fall down after a nose wheel incident but it was in the hangar, maintenance did something wrong and the well nose of the aircraft hit the ground, substantial damage and it was out of service for several months, but they repaired it and it back into service, aircraft was around 12-15 at that time which was 2000-2002 era.
Picture when they brought in a crane to move it.
I am pretty sure PVR is a single runway airport, and there were a fair amount of diversions after this, United flight from Houston was at about the half way point and returned to Houston, so I imagine there is pressure to get this runway clear and opened by morning.
As I understand the taxiway is currently being resurfaced and is closed so the runway is also the taxiway, and the aircraft after it taxied up the runway was in the process of turning around so it could depart and the nose wheel collapsed as the aircraft was turning around to face the correct direction for departure.
