Planespotting II

Re: Planespotting II
Wasn't that issue spotted a month or two ago, with carriers urged by Boeing to carry out checks in the affected area at the soonest possible moment?

Re: Planespotting II
Issue was found late September, with FAA issuing a directive for inspections on October 3. The time frame for inspections depends on how many cycles the aircraft had, those with 30,000 cycles or more needed to be inspected right away, those with less had more time to complete the inspection.
Of the 1,000 or so worldwide inspected so far, roughly 50 have been found with issues.
2 or so weeks ago, Boeing began repairs on the first aircraft, Boeing has set up a repair facility in California.

American Eagle (operated by Rrepublic Airlines) flight between Atlanta and NYC had flight control issue after departure, pilots reported they were close to stall and had issue lowering the pitch of the aircraft.
Luckily the flight was able to return and land safely, but listening to the ATC recording, you can hear in the pilots voices something was wrong.

ATC recording, starts around 6:30 mark.

Really interesting and comprehensive write up of one of the research flights for 'Project Sunrise' being conducted by Qantas.
The double sunrise is something I would want to experience. The 19 hours on a plane without a break, not so much.

Might want to rephrase that!

On seeing the cockpit photo, my first thought was "No, no, face front FFS, you're about to hit a building!"
Qantas has flown London to Sydney direct, back in 1989. Back then, it used a Boeing 747 that had most of its internal furniture removed to cut down on weight and fuel tanks filled to the brim to carry just 23 people.
Apparently fewer than 1,000 people have experienced double sunrises!

Re: Planespotting II
I like flying and all, but unless the main cabin had sufficient leg room to be comfortable, no way I would do 19 hours non-stop anywhere, now if I could afford first class, no problem, can be pretty comfortable in first, sleep, etc but coach that long sounds horrid.... I do okay until around 12 hour mark then I am ready to get off the plane.
