Pet Peeves?

Re: Pet Peeves?
I put my reusable bags on the passenger seat next to me so I won't forget them when I go to the market. I only use s/s when I have a handful of items and prefer a checker when I do a larger shopping order. I don't feel that it is Americans think it is beneath them. It is a matter of having deal with machinery that aren't always working properly and/or having to deal with codes on produce and bakery items, etc. and with some markets not allowing you to place your purchases into your cart until it is paid for. If you have a large order and perhaps a few large containers or boxes they won't all fit on the small package platform so it becomes a pita.

I don't like dealing with people. They're so slow.
And increasingly the stores are asking for donations.

It was quite fun learning the hard way in the UK when you forgot your bags, many places got clever and also ensured the single use cheap bags were not readily available, meaning I ended up with a few more bags for life than a person probably needed. We brought them with us and get very confused members of staff in Walmart as they try and work out how to just place items on the top of the bag stand as we shovel them in ourselves. The poor sods in Publix look crestfallen as they try to figure out how to fill a big bag rather than having lots of smaller bags with two items in each. My wife still tries to bag herself and ends up in a race with the bagger.

Assuming your Walmart has those rotary bag carousels, I just take things back out of the bags as the carousel comes around.

There is a Little Miss P at home. Where there are children, ungodly quantities of milk are consumed. I'm amazed at how long milk supplies last now that the Little Lion has pushed off to uni.

My guess would be that half the problem is the sort of people who would plan an alcohol-free wedding.

True, many of the males have had to be surgically extracted from their camo gear and getting that MAGA ballcap off their heads is like scalping a live one!

I love self check out, usually faster and better to have 10 self check out options vs 2-3 human cashiers. I went to a store last week and they redid their front end, got rid of all human cashier lanes, and added 10-12 self check outs, if you want to buy something self check out is the only option.
Self checkout seems popular here, the stores that use them have steadily been adding more and removing human cashiers.
McDonalds is using self ordering kiosks now, they seem to also prioritize the self ordering so you end up getting your food quicker vs ordering from a human. I think you can order by app as well before even getting to the restaurant and when you arrive they bring your order out.
Plastic bags haven't been banned, pretty much all retailers charge 5 cents a bag though, I go that route as they make good trash bags and living in an apartment we have to put trash into bags to dispose of the garbage and so 5 cent shopping bags are perfect size. Petsmart still gives them out free still, but pretty much every other big box store charges 5 cents.
